In The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association News from Canada…
Our Association members from Toronto, Canada hosted a climate change seminar entitled “Creating
a Safe and Prosperous World.” Attended by over 220 guests, the gathering was held at
the beautiful, state-of-the-art Toronto Reference Library. Our Association members gave a presentation
on the vision of a peaceful and loving world if all adopted the cruelty-free plant-based
diet to halt climate change. Other talks included those on health, fitness, nutrition, food
security, and introducing the sustainable veg diet in schools. Dr. David Jenkins, Professor
of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto; Ms. Julie Johnston, a teacher
and leader in sustainability education; and Ms. Jessica Sedlock, 2009 North American Biathlon
Champion, were also guest speakers..
(In English) Lee Ann Gallant (f): If more people went vegetarian
and less utilized the resources that it takes to create meat, then we would be using a lot
less, our carbon footprints would be much smaller. And that is not even touching on
the ethical and moral dilemma that we have about killing other animals.
(In English) SMTV correspondent (f): Can you just tell
me what you thought of the day so far?
(In English) Philip (m): It’s a big eye-opener. I was
thinking that global warming is all attributed to fossil fuels and the burning of gasoline
and oils like that, but I didn’t realize what it was. Vegans can contribute to reducing
global warming.
(In English) Danielle Smith (f): I think if you’re an
environmentalist, you need to be a vegan. When I did research into how much damage animal
agriculture has on the environment, I was shocked.
ANCHOR: Attendees enjoyed a complimentary delectable vegan meal. Ninety of them eagerly
took up the veggie challenge.
(In English) Candice Stoutley (f): I am excited, especially
after all the information that we received from the seminar. Just to know that it’ll
do so much for the environment and the animals. It’ll make me feel good to make that difference.
ANCHOR: Those participating in the vegan pledge received one of Supreme Master Ching Hai’s
#1 international best-selling books “The Dogs in My Life,” “The Birds in My Life,”
or “The Noble Wilds.” Gift certificates to Toronto’s two Loving Hut restaurants
were also given to the veg-embracing individuals. Loving Hut is a family of eateries encouraged
by Supreme Master Ching Hai to offer affordable scrumptious vegan foods.
What great news to hear of compassionate individuals transitioning to the plant-based diet! Bravo,
all speakers and those taking part in this event. May seminars such as these help encourage
many more to adopt the planet-protecting cruelty-free diet.
