Heading into vinyasana I always like to sink the spine down into the mat a few times. It's
not going to stay there, but at least it's establishing an intention for length and space,
massage of course. And if you've done any amount of yoga you're familiar probably with
all this and more. Legs sliding out, balancing on the sacrum as best you can, that is not
being on the bottom of the sacrum of the tail, the top of the sacrum near the waist, but
right in the middle, if you can. But as you know in vinyasana muscles relax completely,
so there's not going to be anywhere for you to hold anything, and that's really the spirit
of this pose, is that there's nothing to hold onto. There's such powerful training for the
body and mind, to practice vinyasana, and if you tend to skip it after your postures,
I really want to support you to put it back in your sequence, and spend at least 10 minutes;
I think 10 minutes is probably the magic amount of time for the nervous system. Couple of
things in your relaxation pose, first, really commit to stillness, that will help the mind
detach from the body, or the muscles a little bit more. And there are lots and lots of techniques,
or whole tapes, CD's, weekend workshops, tons of information of how to do a relaxation or
a yoga sleep. But to this, to all of that, I just want to add, it's just surrender, it's
surrender. And it takes a lot of courage to surrender, but when you do in this pose, you
feel infinite support coming up to meet you. This is so reassuring for the mind and the
heart. And it gives us courage and support to be able to surrender in other ways in our
lives. So really all you have to do in this pose, is be courageous enough to let go of
absolutely everything in your conditioned reality.
