Q: What type of anaesthetic is used for an Areola Reduction?
Adrian Richards: What type of anesthetic is used
for an areola reduction? Well, you've got options. Many people, the vast majority, have
the procedure under local anaesthetic. Some people who don't like the idea of local anaesthetic
have a slightly relaxed twilight anaesthetic, and some people choose to have a general anaesthetic.
In a local anaesthetic, which is the most common, there is some discomfort in the initial
period of the operation, which lasts probably under 20 seconds, a bit like going to the
dentist. Then after that you feel pressure and movement, but you won't feel pain. So,
many people like the ideal of local anaesthetic because they're awake, they're in control,
they can eat and drink, and go back to activities much quicker than with either a twilight or
with a general anaesthetic.
