Hey guys, bananiac here. I'm here at the Woodstock Fruit Festival with my friend, Gabe Smith.
So Gabe, you've had a pretty amazing transformation man,
I've seen your pictures and it's like a totally different person man.
Can you tell us how you did it and how much weight you lost?
Well, the heaviest I've ever was was 233 lbs,
and I lost about 60, 60 lbs of fat. I've gained a bit muscle back since then.
You asked how long it took me?
Yeah, how long? Where you came from? Where you are now?
Yeah, well, I use to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day.
I had acne. I had really bad mood swings; things would *** me off really easy.
I use to work at a restaurant and I would get really mad and pissed off at a table or a customer,
and then I'd go in the back scream like AHHHHHHHHHHHH!
And , I mean, there was a saying at work if people were freaking out they'd say "stop Gabbing out". I mean that's how bad it was.
I mean, I have done a complete 180.
I lost 60 lbs by eating a low fat, high carbohydrate, raw vegan diet;
which is a fruitarian diet.
I use to be a vegetarian even when I was fat. I was a fat vegetarian.
I gained weight after giving up meat because I was eating cheese, processed foods, fried foods.
Meat isn't healthy but just because you're not eating one thing doesn't mean that you're not eating other things that aren't bad for you.
Yeah, it took me, I don't even remember how long.
I can't even say so much because my weight fluctuated but I guess I lost the weight in a few months really.
6 months probably to be more accurate.
The weight really started coming off after I told myself I was going to run a marathon, and I stated training.
Diet is one thing, you can lose weight with diet by just eating healthy,
but to have better results, you have to add fitness into it.
So I started running 50+ miles a week, doing calisthenics.
And I'm still improving, right? I mean that's the goal to just keep getting healthier, and healthier, and more fit.
So many things have improved. My acne is almost non existent, or completely non existent now.
Mood swings, unless I'm not carbed up, as long as I get the fruit in, I'm pretty calm and collective.
Nice man! So what would you recommend for people who are struggling with their weight
because there are a lot of health experts out there that'll say cut your calories, restrict your calories, do a lot of exercise.
What is your take for losing weight but without losing your mind, I guess?
Right, the calories in, calories out thing definitely does work; I mean people lose weight.
If your not taking in sustenance, then your body is going to rely on it's reserves, so your going to lose weight if you calorie restrict.
The problem is is that it messes up your thyroid and metabolic rate, and your hunger will come back with a vengeance.
I went on a 31 day juice fast and I lost a bunch of weight. I lost like 25 lbs, I think, in 3 weeks.
And my hunger went away when I was fasting. Cool.
But when I started eating again, I was so hungry and I ate everything. I gained all the weight back
So I don't recommend calorie restriction. I don't think that works long term, you know?
All animals in nature eat until their satiated. That is how we should be too, you know?
I think we should eat as much as we possibly want until we don't want to eat anymore.
I don't think we should eat beyond satiation but eat as much as you want of carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates are our fuel. Sugar fuels every cell in our body.
Sugar does not make you fat. Fat makes you fat.
What would you recommend them to eat more of?
I say high calorie foods. Foods that fill you up.
There is not one staple that I eat. Bananas I guess because they're easy, they're cheap, and they're high calorie.
On average, 100 calories per banana. Bananas, dates, and mangoes.
I think whatever your favorite fruit is really, you know?
You can make watermelon a staple but it's hard to get enough calories. Just eat enough of it.
So where can people find you and hear more of your story man?
I have a website called easyrawlife.com
My YouTube channel is easyrawfood, all in one word,
and I post videos at least once a week, probably a lot more now that we're at the Woodstock Fruit Festival.
I have a lot of footage to put out there, but yeah.
Cool man! Well, thanks for doing this interview man. It's been awesome hanging out with you!
You like-wise man!
Alright, thanks for watching guys!
