Hi, my name is Teresa and today I'm going to show you a twist on traditional French Toast.
I add Ontario apples and maple syrup. So let's get started.
Spray a 9 x 13 glass baking dish with a vegetable spray. And I have ten cups of cubed egg bread
and I'm going to layer half of it. If you have little kids at home, you can have them
tear the bread into nice, rustic pieces for you.
And for the apple topping, we have three cups of diced Ontario apples. We're going to add
2 tablespoons of brown sugar, and one and a half teaspoons of cinnamon. I like to leave
the peel on the apples. It adds extra fibre and it also saves a little bit of time in
the kitchen.
Toss that well and layer half of it over the bread. I like to use a combination of Ontario
apples and today I'm using Ontario McIntosh and Spartan. It gives you a nice, different
texture and different flavours.
Finish with the remaining bread. And scatter the remaining apple pieces.
In the same bowl, I'm going to combine our egg mixture (6 eggs). And use the same bowl because
you still have a little bit of cinnamon flavouring in it so it's going to flavour our mixture.
We're going to add three cups of milk, one third cup of Ontario honey to add some sweetness.
And one tablespoon of vanilla extract.
Pour over the bread and apples. And with a spatula, gently press down to make sure that
all the bread has been coated in the liquid.
Bake in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 50 to 55 minutes or until the egg mixture is
set and nice and golden brown. If you like, serve drizzled with warm Ontario maple syrup
and sliced Ontario peameal bacon. Mmm mmm good!
