Greetings fellow nerds.
Last month I showed smash-glow crystals that released light when damaged.
The effect of producing light this way was called triboluminescence.
In this video we'll show you very weak triboluminescence at home with duct tape.
To do it is very simple,
just get some duct tape,
attach it together sticky-side to sticky-side,
turn off the lights and pull them apart as hard as you can.
At the tear point this blue line of light appears.
The faster you pull the brighter it is.
I have to thank ashi58 for letting me use his footage.
I tried to do this myself but as you can see here, even with contrast enhancement my camera is terrible.
The light is just too weak. Ashi58's camera is much better than mine.
Now if you try this yourself just know that not all tape works.
I tried all kinds of tape including clear tape and a few brands of duct tape.
But I could only get the triboluminescent effect from this particular brand of duct tape.
If you do manage to capture video of your tape working
then please post a video response and show the type of tape you're using.
