Hello everyone! I hope you're well! Today I have a story for you, and that's our transformation.
We have been on the Paleo diet for almost a year, and I thought, as the anniversary
is approaching, it's the perfect time to share how we did it. So this is what the video is
going to be about. My husband lost around 70 pounds, and I lost around 13. But we both
managed to turn a lot of our fat into muscles. We did it by following the primal (or Paleo)
diet and by following an amazing exercise program. So if you want to know more about
how we did it, just keep watching! I was so called skinny-fat, which basically means that I looked skinny
when I was wearing clothes but if I wore something tight-fitting or a bikini, you could see excess
fat, and it was mostly around my belly area. I had love handles at all times and I started
having them around the age of 14. I also started having cellulite when I was around 16, and
I wasn't too worried about that because nearly everybody around me had it. But now I know
that with a good diet and a good exercise program, it's really not that difficult to
get rid of. My husband's story has been slightly different. He's always been pretty fit, but
then almost 10 years ago he moved to London to be with me. You know what happens when
you get a new partner, a new cosy life - you start eating more, you just relax I guess.
You get into a routine of a comfortable life. So he gained quite a bit of weight. He tried
a lot of different things. He tried to ride a bicycle for an hour every day but that didn't
help. He definitely got stronger but the fat just stayed. Then we both started going to
the gym. We did it got around a couple of years but it wasn't helping. We were definitely
getting stronger again, and the interesting thing is that it seemed like we were getting
bigger simply because the muscles were growing underneath the fat but the fat wasn't going
anywhere. So instead of becoming smaller, we were getting bigger.
Next, we decided to go vegetarian and we stayed vegetarian for around two years. I think that
it's possible to be a successful vegetarian but we didn't do it properly. We didn't research
it properly, and so we ended up missing out on a lot of nutrients. We ate a lot of processed
foods, you know, Quorn, meat replacements and things like that. A lot of sugar, a lot
of pasta, grain in general. So it definitely wasn't helping at all, and during the vegetarian
years my husband gained a bit more weight as well. Then we met a friend who was following
the fruitarian diet or the diet called 80/10/10, just like Freelee the Banana Girl here on
YouTube. So we tried that diet for 10 days and it nearly killed me. It was awful! It
made me feel so bad. Once I got off it, it took me around three months to get back to
normal. I just felt so dizzy. Every time I was making sudden movements or if i was lying
down on the floor, I was getting incredibly dizzy, and nearly all our muscles vanished
within those 10 days. So I definitely don't think it's a great idea to follow that diet,
and I'll explain in a separate video in the future why I think so. We were pretty desperate.
We didn't know what else to try, and that's when we came across a fitness program called
You Are Your Own Gym by Mark Lauren. It literally transformed the way we think of our exercising.
Going to the gym is pretty expensive, and if you want to do it in the house, generally
you have to buy expensive weights and all kinds of equipment. That wasn't an option
for us because we simply didn't have the money for it. So, once we found this book, it was
amazing because it explains how you can exercise using your own bodyweight. You can use things
in your house, such as towels, door handles, tables, things like that. All you need really
is just a pull-up bar. So we started following the program and it was amazing. But the real
breakthrough happened when we started following the Paleo Diet a month later. We could see
the results:we were losing the fat, the muscles were getting more defined but, once we went
Paleo, the results were incredible. We were taking progress pictures more or less every
week but, since we went Paleo, the next progress pictures were just unbelievable. It's just
a book and an app. It's probably around 15$ for everything. It's definitely so cheap.
But it's life changing because you don't have to go to the gym, you don't have to spend
lots of time, you don't have to buy expensive weights or any equipment for your house. It's
also only 2-3 hours per week of exercises. So I think that's amazing! And this guy, Mark
Lauren, is a trainer for the Special Forces in America, so that guy really knows how to
do his job. His job is basically taking guys from the street and I think within 6 weeks
he has to turn them into Special Forces soldiers. So he needed to find a program that would
be really effective in a very short amount of time and with the least trauma. And he
definitely succeeded because I think it's amazing. My husband lost 32 kg, which is around
70 pounds. I lost around 6 kg, which is around 13 pounds, and that's not much but then I
didn't really need to lose that much anyway. To be honest, if you don't need to lose a
lot of weight, you shouldn't weigh yourself because weight is nothing. You have to look
at your measurements. So as long as you feel that you're getting stronger, and you feel
better, throw away those scales! Don't even look at it. it doesn't mean anything at all.
For my husband it was slightly different. He was losing weight dramatically, and we
were afraid that it would never stop! But once he reached his ideal weight, it just
stopped. It's incredible! The body is so smart. It knows exactly when it's time to stop. And
his weight has been stable now for around 4 months.
So this is what we did to get the body of our dreams. OK, it's not the body of our dreams
yet but we're on the way. So first of all, we ate the best food ever and we never counted
calories. Calorie counting is silly, it doesn't lead you anywhere. We just gave up on some
things that are really good for the body, which is grains, beans, sugar, low-fat pasteurized
dairy products. We still eat dairy but mostly mature cheeses and butter, cream - fat things
in general. We also limited fruit to no more than 1 or 2 pieces a day because fruit is
still sugar, and, if you're trying to lose weight, you should definitely go easy on fruit.
We didn't exercise for hours and hours in the gym. All we did was just 2-3 hours of
bodyweight exercises at home. We also did occasional 15-minute sprints outside. Those
are brilliant because interval training is great for your heart and your whole body.
and it helps you lose weight faster. We also tried to go for walks as much as possible.
We tried to leave our car at home and go to buy food on foot. And we also tried to hike
maybe once a week. So that's all we did. It's really simple, anybody can do that, and it
doesn't cost you anything. I highly highly recommend this book, and if you don't want
to get the book, at least get the app - it's really really cheap, and it helps you so much
because you just go and exercise, you don't have to think about what to do and when. The
app tells you everything, so I think it's a great thing to get. And I'm so proud of
myself because I worked so hard to achieve it. All it took me was just 4 months. I feel
so much stronger and just happier in general. And the thing is when you exercise, you get
stronger physically but you also get stronger mentally. You just feel so powerful, as if
you could move mountains to get whatever you want. So if you need a bit of a boost to your
mood and to your self-esteem, I think you should really try to exercise because it changes
your life. It makes it so much better! So I hope that you like this video. If you have
