Good evening! This is Dr. Susan Riegg from susanrieggmd.com!
Today is Saturday, January 18!
I am on day 18
of my HCG diet. I'm pretty close to my goal of 10 pounds of weight loss.
My starting weight was 187 pounds.
Today I am at 178.6 pounds!
So I am 8.4 pounds
down! Nothing really interesting to report.
Just kinda chugging along. Today's question that I was going to address,
received another email question
regarding the protocol. Wanting to know if we could drink
tea while on the hcg diet and I have received this question in the past
and many patients have asked
if tea helps
with the weight loss process because a lot of people do like to drink
green tea and also take
green tea supplements in an attempt to lose weight.
So I just thought I would address that question today!
Going back to
the, "Pounds and inches" manuscript,
very clearly stated that
tea and coffee can be consumed in any quantity.
Unlimited. Clearly no sugar allowed
and we always recommend
if any sweetener is needed, to use stevia
or of course juice of the lemon.
Now, we always encourage patients to drink
green tea! there's always been talk about the health benefits
a green key and this actually has been documented in the literature
and everybody kind of discusses
that, you know, there's sort of a lot of talk about how
green tea boost your metabolism and supposedly
helps you to lose weight. When you look on the internet you find all kinds
of
,you know, websites that talk about
its benefits as far as weight loss,
helping with blood sugar regulation, cancer, heart disease, burning fat and so
on.
Supposedly it has anti-oxidant properties, anti-viral properties,
anti-inflammatory properties and so on.
So the more you look the more you find. You basically can find websites that
tells you
it helps lower LDL cholesterol, reduce body fat,
but when you really start digging
down it's tough to find the real
science and i really wanted to find the
evidence base literature and it was a little bit
tough to find. The best I could do was,
I did find in
Harvard Health Publicationsm that they had
some literature
basically saying that there was
benefit of drinking green tea.
That there were health benefits, you know, documented for centuries
and that recent years the medicinal properties have been investigated
scientifically.
Although I didn't actually find the scientific
papers but
there was some reference to an active
ingredient referred to as a type of flavonoid called
"gallated catechins."
So there it is! That's about as much as I could find.
Now as far as what kind of teas
most HCG patience are consuming,
the the most popular one is the Yerba Mate.
If you can go on the internet and read about Yerba Mate's
history and culture and where
it's grown, but this is a wonderful
green tea and I've had some of this and its
got a really interesting taste. It's actually
grown in northeastern Argentina. Organic, non-GMO, of course.
The oolong tea is very popular. The Tazo chai tea.
If you're constipated, the "Smooth Move" tea is very popular.
It works great.
Although I would say don't use it too often because you don't want to become
dependent on it.
There's a wonderful product out called HP
Green Tea which is a very interesting product.
It comes in these little packets that they call
Pixies and they're made with the green tea ingredients
and you can add this to your water and
create many, many different flavored
teas. Ithink they have 35 or 40 different
tea flavors, but I've tried them and they're very, very delicious!
So that's something to check out too. So bottom line
is that there's a lot of reasons to incorporate
green tea and all these flavored teas into your
weight loss strategies!
So any questions, give us a call or send us an email
and I hope to hear from you!
