Hi my name is Surya Misra and I work here as a chief cook.
I’ve been with the Coast Guard since last year September and right now I’m working on the W.E. Ricker
which is a fisheries research vessel.
We have 19 crews and officers and we get 10 scientists sailing with us.
Basically, we’re responsible for running the galley as the logistic part of the ship.
We serve three meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I work along with my second cook and two stewards and we make a great team.
Our main objective is to keep all our crew and officers happy with ours meals.
I am very excited to be working with Coast Guard. We have great benefits, pension plan, dental, medical.
I take this job as more of an adventure than a career and all I can say is that this is the best job I’ve ever had.
I’ve been a professional chef for 23 years.
To work overseas, I’ve seen a lot of places and I hope I can continue my career with the CCG.
Working with the Coast Guard is a little bit different from working other places in a restaurant,
a fine dining or hotels because here you make your own menu each day you decide what you have to make.
If you do a good job and the crew and officers like your food, you get a direct compliment from them.
Working with the Coast Guard, every day is a great moment.
