this will be a half double crochet hat made with a brim
this is the yarn I am using
there are a lot of other yarns that will work
for this pattern
I am using a size I/5.5mm
crochet hook
you will need a yarn marker, which is just a scrap piece of yarn
the hat will be worked in a continual round
chain three
join
chain one
this will not count as a stitch
i'm going to be working ten full
half double crochet
there's one
two , three
four
five, six
seven
eight, nine, ten
instead of joining i'm going to crochet
right into the next
stitch and i'm going to work two half double crochet
just like this
there’s two
sometimes with the half double crochet there's confusion
with crocheting through the top of the stitch
and between the stitch
for this hat, I am going to go
between the stitch
which is below
this loop right here
so i don't know if you'll be able to see this or not if you're crocheting
through the stitch
you would go up here
and these two loops
would be on top of your hook
and in this loop back here, it would be below it
between the stitches
there will be three loops
on top of your hook
like this
it will turn out looking the same way whether you go
through the top of the stitches or between the stitches, there's not much of a difference
and I just like to go between the stitches
and i know the hook is a little bit squeaky, it's kind of the humid day today
I have ten half double crochet, I have ten more to go
eleven
twelve
thirteen
fourteen
fifteen
sixteen
seventeen
eighteen
nineteen, twenty
now we want to get the yarn marker
you're going to mark the stitch
this is so we know when our rounds end, and begin
and you know when to do
the next increases
there'll be ten increases on each round until we get sixty
round three, there will be thirty half double crochet
I have powdered up my crochet hook so hopefully it won't be a squeaky
I will work
one, half double crochet
then two, half double crochet in the next stitch
one, half double crochet
two
half double crochet
one, half double crochet
two
half double crochet
continue around
to your marker
until you have a total of thirty
half double crochet
on round three
I have completed around three
for thirty half double crochet
this is where my yarn marker is right now sometimes it shifts
this is one of those projects that
as long as you're pretty close
you don't have to be
real real exact
as long as the hat is fitting your head and everything is turning out all right
the pattern is just a guide so
it can easily be modified at any time to make a larger or smaller cap
round four will be an individual stitch in each of the next
two stitches
and then two stitches
in the same
so you can see right here I did an individual have double crochet there
another individual half double crochet
two half double crochet in the same stitch
we will have forty half double crochet on round four
and it is always a good idea to try to stagger
the increases so you don't have them all lined up on top of each other
or you may start to form points 0:05:58.149,0:05:59.639 work two
individual stitches
and then increase two stitches in the same
space
work an individual stitch in each of the next two spaces
two in the same space
continue around for a total of forty
I have completed around
four
for forty stitches
round 5
will be fifty stitches
one individual stitch
in three
there is one
two
three
now work an increase in the fourth
so if you have two half double crochet in the same
now work
one individual stitch
in the next three spaces there's one
two, three
work to in the same space
for an increase
work one individual stitch in each of the next three
worked to in the same for the increase
and continue around for a total of fifty
half double crochet
i have completed the fifty, half double crochet on round five
now round six will be the last round of increases
there will be
forr individual
half double crochet
one, two
three, four
and then increase
so each one of these rounds has ten
increases, work four individual
stitches
one, two
three
four, and then increase
work four individual stitches
one
two
three
four, then increase
continue around for a total of sixty
on round six
I have completed around six
with sixty half double crochet
now you will work
one half double crochet
in each stitch or between each stitch, however you choose to do it
for the remainder of the length of your hat
for approximately twenty rounds
i have completed my last round now what i want to do it is even off
the round
so i'll skip one half double crochet
and do a slip stitch
in the next
and that evens it up
now we want to do the brim
I will chain one
and i'm going to skip this half double crochet
and i will be working
two half double crochet
across nineteen
stitches for a total of thirty eight
there's three
four
five
six
seven
eight
you can see right here I am working two stitches between each stitch
and that's going to make
the brim flare up like this
you can easily adjust the size of your brim
now i want to skip one stitch and in the next i'm going to work a slip stitch
slip stitch again over into the next space
which is right here
turn and work one half double crochet between each
half double crochet
for a total of thirty eight
this is how the second row on the brim is looking
continue across until you have thirty eight
I have completed thirty eight half double crochet for row two of the brim
now what i'm going to do is slip stitch in the next
stitch on the hat
this is what we have with two rows
i'm going to work one more row, so I will turn
and work one half double crochet between each half double crochet across
you may wind up with a few extra, that's alright
i've completed all my stitches on row three
what i want to do a slip stitch into the next stitch on the hat
and secure my yarn and then cut it
i have tried going out further with the brim
but
it starts to get floppy and it won’t hold its shape anymore
this completes the hat
