This drill is called lateral speed lunge. What we're working on is lateral agility,
the ability to start, stop and as you're moving laterally, quickly and powerfully. Ready?
Ready. OK. Let's grab a couple cones and then set them about five yards apart. Powerfully
push off the one side all the way out to one cone, stop hard, push off again real hard,
back out the other side. You want to get as many touches as you can for about 15 seconds.
You can make it more basketball by putting your hands out and making like you're guarding
your opponent. And go. And stop. Good job. Good. Good good. Head up, hips down making
sure that your knees are bent and you're keeping your chest square to your opponent. Let's
try it again. And good. OK, as you can see, from a defensive standpoint as a professional
basketball player, you have to play defense and you have to play quick defense and this
is an excellent drill for defense.
