Have you ever had a question on how to transition from a bulking cycle to a cutting cycle? Should
you do high reps or low reps, what's the deal? That's what we are going to be talking about
today, we have a great question here, I'm Vince Del Monte by the way and this is the
show I call "Ask the Skinny Guy Saviour". It's where I answer your questions and right
now we're in a certain series of videos where I am trying to answer each question in a three
minutes or less and we are doing one question per episode.
Kevin asks, "Greeting Vince what is your thoughts on bulking and cutting routines? High reps
on a cut or do you do whatever you did when you were bulking? And also take on lactic
acids training? Thanks?" Absolutely, you've answered the question already.
I recommend that when you are transitioning from a bulk to a cut that you use the same
protocol that you used for the bulk. Assuming that your end goal is to maximise your muscularity,
your fullness and that you want to look hard and big, assuming that you are striving for
that muscle model body building look. If you're just trying to lose weight, and don't get
me wrong I've got a lot of friends that could care less about having bulging muscles and
being really proportional and sculpted, they are just interested in being lean and having
a flat stomach. A six pack isn't even in their vocabulary, they are just happy having a flat
stomach. For most people that just want to lose weight there is definitely a time and
a place for more metabolic resistance training and circuits where you keep your heart-rate
up, almost turning weight-training into cardio but you are using weights. That's very popular
with a large portion of the population and there is nothing wrong with that unless your
goal is to look like a body builder or a muscle model.
If you want to look big, strong and muscular you need to keep the stimulus the same way
that you did initially to solicit the muscle in the first place. You need to keep the loads
varied between 6 and 12, the rest period relatively short, probably between 30 and 75 seconds.
You want to use a variety of exercises and focus on fatiguing the muscles and you made
a great mention of lactic acid. Lactic acid is actually an extremely powerful indicator
of what will happen to your physique, people who introduce a lot of lactic acid to their
physiques, whether it's through weights or cardiovascular, are extremely lean. Any method
that generates a lot of lactic acid in your body is extremely powerful for hypergaphy
as well as fat loss, lactic acid training is very, very valuable.
The main reason that I'm not a huge fan of doing circuit style workouts for fat loss,
body weight training and stuff like that, for weight training is that it uses loads
that are too light. It is not efficient enough to stimulate the fibres to stay big and muscular.
We need to target the high threshold motor fibres, the ones that are going to generate
the most muscle mass in our body. We need heavier weights and we need certain rep ranges,
as I already suggested, and lower rest periods, as I already suggested. We need higher time
under tension style training to keep those muscles big and hard. That's why you're never
going to see body-builders sign up to cross-fit twelve weeks before a show, you're never going
to see an amateur or pro body builder sign up for a circuit workout as they are dialling
in for a show. It's just doesn't have the same stimulus on the muscle.
The question that you always have to ask yourself is "What is my goal? How do I want to look?"
Thirty seconds? Alright I am going to finish early today but always ask that question,
always be smart and I want to hear your feedback. Do you agree? Do you find that the best protocol
to increase muscularity when going from a bulk to a cut is to stick with the similar
style hypergaphy protocols that you did? Or do you disagree? Are you able to maintain
your muscularity while doing circuit style workouts and doing higher rep workouts? What
has your experience been, I would love to know. Let's look for some common trends, some
common themes that the people who actually take action and do something and have something
to say for it because they have something to show for it.
Leave your comments and questions below, like it, share it, you know all of that. I don't
need to tell you that anymore and if you haven't subscribed to the channel I would love for
you to do that. These videos come out on a regular basis and I don't want you to miss
out on a single one. Thank you so much for watching.
