for the past four decades norml has worked tirelessly to legalize responsible adult
use of marijuana
as the cannabis consumers lobby we petition state and federal legislators to pass
marijuana friendly bills
coordinate educational campaigns to move public opinion forward
and provide legal advice for our supporters
the past few years have been some of the most productive in NORML's history
since 2010 new jersey the district of columbia arizona and
delaware joined the ranks of locales offering protections for medical
marijuana patients
five legislatures have also considered measures to tax and regulate cannabis and states
such as Connecticut decriminalized personal possession
In June, 2011
norml, a bipartisan coalition of legislators, and other reformers introduced
HR2306, the ending federal marijuana prohibition act of 2011
into the house of representatives
To support the bill
we coordinated a number of direct action efforts which resulted in thousands of
emails and letters being sent to elected officials
with committee chairmen representative lamar smith and representative fred
upton stonewalling any attempts at a hearing
we directed a call-in campaign and started a petition signing initiative
which gave thousands of cannabis consumers across the country a platform on which to
vent their frustrations
in the coming months we intend to keep the pressure on our elected officials
and to relentlessly advocate for HR 2306
the 2012 election cycle is also shaping up to be one to watch
for cannabis reform advocates. states such as oregon california colorado and massachusetts
considering legalization ballot initiatives
as always we'll do our best represent your voice of the national debate for
marijuana legalization
countless news updates are delivered daily through our online outlets such as the blog
Facebook and youtube
our web site has become the de facto hub for information on marijuana related
legal issues
all of this is made possible because individuals such as yourself make small
contributions to the cause
Without a millionaire backer normls relies on its grassroots support base
to keep us up, running, and fighting for marijuana reform
