Hi this is Doctor Susan Riegg from www.susanrieggmd.com
and today is my ninth day
on my HCG diet. My starting weight was
187 pounds, today I am down to 181.5 pounds. So I am down
5.5 pounds, which is a little bit better than average. At
nine days I would expect my patients
any of my patients to be down a minimum
of 4.5 pounds and I'm down 5.5 pounds so I am pleased
with my progress. I'm seeing
the biggest change in my tummy area.
So everything is going great and
no problems. Today I'd like to
address a question that I received from one of my patients.
I'm actually receiving quite a few email questions
and I'd like to encourage everybody to send me an
email questions because I'm really
very happy to address any questions or problems that people have while they're on HCG.
So one of my, actually it's one of my
Waukesha patients, emailed me and
I'll read the question. She said, "One of my girlfriends is on the hcg diet and her
practitioner
is following Kevin Trudeau's book. She did the phase one
colon cleanse before starting the HCG as recommended by Trudeau.
Why are you not recommending that for me?"
So Beth, let me answer that for you.
First of all, Kevin Trudeau I
talked a little bit about in one of my previous videos
he
wrote some additional information that Dr. Simeons did not
describe and primarily
Kevin Trudeau described
a lot of detail about phase one
which interestingly had a lot of things, actually a
I have his book in front me and it had a
total of sixty additional
steps to do in
a thirty day period before you started HCG
and a lot of it was kind of good stuff. It included drinking
a lot of water and walking and using
extra *** coconut oil, eating apples, and grapefruit,
raw organic apple cider vinegar,
drinking green tea,
probiotics, heavy metal cleanse,
organic yerba mate tea, eating breakfast
eating six times per day, and so on and so on. I mean I'm not going to go through
all this. It
is a lot of sort of health wellness common sense.
But there were a couple up things that he recommended
if you get his
large hardcover book it's on page 77 and number four
is colonics, which I don't agree with. He
described number 4 for you and said, "Go to a licensed colon therapist, and under their
supervision and guidance received 15
colonics during the 30 day
phase one period." Colonics are similar to a high enema
okay so I do not agree with that. Then on page 78
point number 8 he describes colon cleanse,
"In addition to the colonics it is recommended that you take
a colon cleanse product during this phase."
He goes on to recommend some
colon cleanse products. So I'm going to go into a little bit of detail why
I don't necessarily think that's
necessary. Actually I went on the internet and did a little bit of research
about weight loss cleanses and
as you can see here, when you go on google
and you search for weight loss cleanse you see there's over 16 million results so
there's a lot of people
selling weight loss cleanses.
There's a lot of money to be made selling weight loss cleanses,
so there's a lot of scammers out there. Here's one
called natural home-remedies.com. This one really
made me smile because they had a a diagram
of the colon and here you can see there's a little
colon ninja. Now I'm a pathalogist by training and
I have seen thousands of colons
in the pathology laboratory and
I can't recall ever seeing a colon ninja.
So I really spent a lot of time
researching this and cannot find
anymore information about a colon ninja.
So this is very perplexing to me. Then I found
truehealth.com with some colon information describing the colon as
being
59 inches long
and then this really interesting drawing of an unhealthy colon
and a healthy colon. The unhealthy colon shows constipation
with
buildup in excess weight and gas and bloating
and this fascinating stricture here
with a little diagram here saying
to the small intestines and then this
healthy colon with no buildup, reduced
excess weight, no constipation.
This is fascinating to me as well.
So just a little bit of background about a weight loss cleanse. The premise is that
if you do a weight loss cleanse that you get rid of accumulated toxins
and you need
detoxification. Proponents
of weight loss cleanse say that you have intestinal sluggishness
and this causes the contents of your colon to stagnate and then the toxins
are absorbed and this can
cause chronic poisoning of your body. Now
back in the early nineteen hundred's
there were a lot of people who said that you could get
autointoxication and this theory was very popular
but then in the 1930s and 40s this theory was really
debunked because the scientific community did very
careful observations to show that healthy individuals
varied
greatly in their bowel habits and clearly
it is optimal for people to be having bowel
movements every day, but certainly people who
are constipated aren't dropping dead and
so there is not a lot of
scientific evidence
to support this theory of autointoxication.
So proponents of colon cleanses
basically say that fecal material collects on the inner surface of the
intestine that causes all kinds of problems
and that it needs to be removed with fasting, and laxatives, colonic irrigation
colonic cleanses, special diets, herbs, and supplements
so on. Now as I said I'm a pathologist by training and spent over two
decades
in pathology labs. I've had more than my share of
time examining
colon resections in the lab and I can tell you
with no uncertainty that their is
not a propensity for fecal material to adhere to the inner surface
of the colon. I'm going to show you some images here
to demonstrate that, know if you have a queasy stomach you might want to turn
this video off
because I'm going show you some
colonoscopy photos and some surgical pathology photos.
First of all what are typical colon cleanses
made of? They are
made out of powders
that usually contain cilium and flaxseed and some
bentonite, laxatives things like that and you add water
So as a little bit of background,
what are we talking about? Well the colon is here
actually this doesn't show the attachment of the small intestine
but the small intestine at the distal ileum attaches
at the cecum here and the appendix is here so then we have the ascending
colon
the transverse colon is here
and then we have a flexure that drops down the descending colon sigmoid
and then the *** and the *** here.
Now I'm going to show some colonoscopy photos
just to demonstrate how smooth this
mucosa is and that truly
there is not a problem with fecal
material getting stuck here and needing any kind of
cleanser to get it unstuck or to detoxify the inner surface
of the colon. The vasculature is
very close to the surface and you can see the
Pattern of the blood vessels right under the surface.
This is another view of a different patient,
very smooth glistening mucosal surface.
Now this colonoscopy photo shows the patient with pseudomembranus colitis now
this
might look like adhering fecal material but it is not.
These are actually inflammatory
exudate and
no amount to colon cleanse is going to help this. This is actually a systemic problem
from a patient who had been on antibiotics probably
clindamycin which wipes out
the normal flora of the gut and then
has
an inflammatory problem in the gut. This
photograph shows polyposis so this is a familial polyposis
and the mucosal
lining is covered by
small polyps.
Again a colon cleanse will not help this.
Diverticular disease again you can see
numerous outpouchings of the mucosa and
in this case some fecal material can get stuck in these outpouchings and
cause inflammation and other problems
This photograph shows radiation proctitis.
So this is in elderly gentleman with prostatic
carcinoma and had radiation therapy which
caused extensive damage and destruction of the
mucosa of the ***.
This is actually a resection
up the *** so this is the
invasive cancer, you see the central ulceration
and then piling up of the periphery of the tumor
and this is normal mucosa you can see the folds
of the benign tissue
and the yellow areas here
is perirectal adipose tissue or the fat.
In summary
the market is full of products
proposing that you can lose weight
and cleanse your colon. In my opinion
and again this is my opinion and others have different opinions,
but as far as enhancing weight loss
or getting you set for HCG I really don't see it being necessary.
It probably will not harm you
but is it going to help you? I don't think so.
The best cleanse for weight loss
is in your produce department. There's nothing better than just
eating lots and lots of high-quality organic
veggies and fruit to clean out your colon and get you all the micronutrients
that you need.
