Do bodybuilders stretch before workouts?
They should stretch before workouts, though not all of them do.
Lifting weights isn’t a cardiovascular workout like jogging a few miles.
To become a body builder, you have to lift different weights dozens of times. While picking
up a barbell once isn’t a workout, doing so 50 times per arm is.
How do you stretch for that?
You should always do general stretches before any workout, even weight lifting. Though I
do understand that some of the stretches are simply reaching toward the sky or the floor.
I heard one guy say he shouldn’t stretch before lifting weights because it makes him
weaker.
So will a pulled muscle while he’s on the weight machine. And a hernia will really make
it hard to get six pack abs, though you could end up with a weird looking tentacle thing.
Stretching seems to take away from workout time.
Spending a weekend in bed after pulling a back muscle does, too. So would time in the
doctor’s office.
Stretching doesn’t help muscle growth.
Stretching can improve muscle circulation and development. And injuries certainly hurt
it.
The irony is that I do see guys stretching and straining after a workout, instead of
before.
Stretching after a workout can reduce tension and make a guy feel more pumped. It can also
expand the muscle fibers, increasing his flexed dimensions.
So stretching after a workout makes him look better.
Think about the stretching and posing guys do after a workout in the mirror or window
to show off to girls. He pumped weights for 15 minutes, but he’s stretching to make
them look even more imposing when he wants to show off.
Pity they don’t stretch more or you’d see fewer guys bent over with ice packs every
day at the gym. That certainly isn’t sexy.
