I shared with the group I'd be coming to the U.S. for vacation and I was coming with my
dad and I requested prayers because things were getting a little difficult for my dad
to come. There were some obstacles along the way. And for me, since I have the experience
of knowing God here in the country, in the U.S., I prayed specifically for having my
dad to get to know the Lord as he comes to this trip. I shared that in the prayer meeting,
we prayed for that, prayed for my dad, and everything worked out. He was able to come.
When we got here, we went to JOY church in Jersey and my dad came with me, and he was
very open to attend, but he doesn't speak any English. So I tried to translate at accurately
as possible what Pastor Danny was preaching on that Sunday.
Then, my dad, during this trip, actually, the whole year before that, had major surgery
in his back, a herniated disk, and he was having a lot of difficulty recovering. He
was walking very slowly and he didn't have the health that he had before. So, during
this trip he could barely walk. And so I told him, Dad, when we go to New York, you're not
going to be able to walk Times Square, you know, the kind of places I wanted to take
him to see.
So at that first Sunday that we were here, he prayed for healing, for health. And together,
lots of people after service gathered around and prayed with him and he wouldn't understand
anything what they were saying, I didn't translate the prayers. But he was crying and I was crying
and I think even the other people who were praying were crying too, so he really felt
the Holy Spirit really moving so we felt warm in that prayer.
As we left, that day he was feeling a little bit better, but the very next day he woke
up feeling different. He said, I think I can walk a little bit further. And then the second
and the third day he was just getting better and better in his health. So he asked me to
thank the church, to thank the prayers because he really believed that that had something
to do with it, that moment.
By the third day, Pastor Danny contacted Christine and told her, you know, remind Kely to read
that spiritual laws, to give me a little book, to read to her dad. So she mailed me that
day and said read this to your dad. And I read it. We were waiting to go to visit another
city and I read that booklet that explained the plan of salvation in Jesus, and there
was a prayer. And at the end, I asked him, do you want to do this prayer? Do you want
to give the control of your life to Jesus? And he agreed, he said yes, we prayed together,
we prayed out loud in a train station here in New York, and it was very emotional to
me. At the same time, I received a message from my work prayer group saying they were
praying for me at that time. So we were so connected!
Before I felt like I was a lonely Christian, doing my job and trying to do what God wanted
me to do, according to his values. After I met the group and started sharing what we
were experiencing at work, I felt, even though I felt a lot more things happening, in the
sense that I felt more battles that were happening at work, at the same time, more strength,
more support, more perseverance. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have the group
to meet again. I'm totally dependent on the group to keep going at work.
