Vlaminck, a 22-year-old from Belgium, made headlines around the world in 2009 after she
emerged from a tattoo parlor with an entire constellation inked on the left side of her
face.
Initially, then-19-year-old Vlaminck lied to her parents and the media, claiming that
she asked a local tattooist for only three stars near her eyes, but he kept adding more
and more after she dozed off under the needle.
But she later confessed that she specifically requested the artist, Rouslan Toumaniantz,
to etch all 56 stars onto her face.
This week, the 22-year-old from the Belgian city of Coutrai had her final laser session
to remove the last traces of the unfortunate tattoo.
Vlamnick began the process of removing her face tattoos back in 2010, and it took nine
laser treatments, which she has described as 'very painful,' to regain her 'before'
look.
In February of this year, Vlamnick appeared in a photo still showing half of her face
speckled with slightly faded stars.
In June 2009, Vlaeminck threatened to sue tattooist Rouslan Toumaniantz for the cost
of the stars' removal, insisting that a language barrier meant the Flemish speaker had misunderstood
when she gave instructions in French and English to ink only three stars on her face.
Vlaeminck said she avoided going out in public because the tattoos made her feel like a 'freak'.
But a week later she confessed to a Dutch TV station that she had been awake throughout
and had indeed asked for the full 56 marks.
Toumaniantz said he did not regret tattooing Vlaeminck, adding that it had given him publicity.
He has since started asking all his customers to give written consent to his designs.
