How to cook an Artichoke Recipe (9.26.12 - Day 45) Oven Roasted Artichokes
Hey my Sweet Vs, it's The Sweetest Vegan here. Today on the show I am going to teach you how to
roast an artichoke. It's a long bake time, but it is a really quick and easy prep. I'm read to see what all the rave about
artichoke is. So let's get started.
How to cook an Artichoke Recipe - Oven Roasted Artichokes
You want to start this recipe by preheating your oven to 325 degrees F. Next you want to cut off the top of the artichoke.
You want to cut off a good ways down. Like an inch, inch and a half. And don't be afraid you are going too far done, because
you don't eat the top of the artichoke. Once you have the middle exposed, and all the leafs spread out, you want to
go ahead and massage those out. You are going to pull out some foil. I am using heavy duty foil, because you want it to
with stand the heat and with stand the crumples, and really hold all the moisture in. Now I am just going to season it.
I have the juice of half of a lemon, olive oil, then I am going to stick about 3 cloves of garlic down in the middle
of the artichoke. You can put it in the middle or throughout the leaves to make sure the flavor spreads out,
but I just stuffed mine in the middle. Be careful not to get stuck by any of the thorns, because they really really hurt.
They are brutal. And then lastly I'm just going to sprinkle on some kosher salt. You can use whatever salt you prefer,
but I like the big chunks so I am going to sprinkle that on. You see how pretty that made it.
Then I am going to fold up my foil. You want to make sure that it is folded in tight and I'm just going to cover with another
piece of foil. Make sure to seal tight, then I put it on a baking dish and I am going to bake it for about 1 hour 20 minutes.
Yes. leave it in there. Leave it alone. It is perfectly fine. I did smell something burning though. If you smell something
burning, it is probably just a little bit of the liquid escaping the foil and evaporating. And then you are done.
You do want to give your artichoke a good 10 - 20 minutes to cool down, because that steam is really really hot.
But just take it out of the foil and you have this beautiful blossom, and you just pull them off
You just take the leaf, and this is the meaty part. Put it in your mouth, and just scrap it off.
And that is it. That's how you eat an artichoke. Now a lot of people, especially in restaurants,
you always see it served with a sauce, so we will be making a hollandaise sauce tomorrow,
but you have to return to see the recipe and I would love to have you guys. If you have any comments, please leave them below,
and, that is it for today. Bye.
