Natural Hair Journey
Seventh and Eighth grade: 2005 to 2006, my relaxed hair was relatively healthy
9th grade 2007: I was introduced to color and continued to relax my hair
My hair slowly started getting drier and thinner
My ends were completely fried
2008: I bleached my whole head twice in one day. Then I dyed it black two days later.
The Results
My hair was EXTREMELY thin and damaged.
I started experiencing EXTREME breakage!!
Last Relaxer: July 31 2008
My hair was completely fried and limp
Beginning of Sophmore Year: 2008 I cut my hair to collar bone length to get rid of some damage.
I had my hair professionally cut to neck/ shoulder length.
I cut the straight / relaxed ends at the back of my head, being curious. I cut too much off and I messed my hair up. I cried and didn't know what to do. I told my sister and we decided to cut my hair into a bob to save the length at the front.
The same day I cut my hair into a bob: February 2009
My hair slowly started growing out: April 2009.
The bob had grown out a lot!: May 2009
July 2009: One week before my big chop.
The Big Chop: July 23 2009, one year after my last relaxer
This picture is two days after my real big chop. I had gotten it professionally cut at a hair salon after I had done my own unplanned big chop with rusty scissors. After this second cut, I was left with two to three and a half inch strands.
My hair was highly layered to make it appear longer than it was. This short piece (that is circled) is bent upward so you can see the REAL length.
This expression fits my feelings towards my unplanned haircut.
1 month natural: August 2009
2 months natural September 2009. My hair was nowhere near my shoulders and my bangs went straight up.
