Hi I'm Karen for Expert Village today we are going to be making a basic white bread. All
of your ingredients should be room temperature because yeast thrives in a warm environment.
We are going to be using 5-7 cups of white flour, 1 2/3 cups of milk, 1 1/2 cup of water,
2 tablespoons of active dry yeast, 2 tablespoons of honey, 2 teaspoon of salt and 2 tablespoons
of oil. Many receipts called for proofing the yeast, you do this by warming the water
I'm going to just put this in the microwave just for a minute you should keep the water
to a 110 degrees if you have a thermometer use that but if you dont have a termometer
you can just touch the water and see if it is warm but not hot. Pour the water in the
bowl and sprinkle the yeast over the water we are going to add just a sprinkle of sugar
to feed the yeast and then we stir it up. Now in 5 minutes we would take a look at this,
if it started to foam then the yeast is good and we would add that into our receipt. In
5-10 minutes check your yeast and if it has not develop a nice foam on top then it is
probably old or dead just throw it away and start with a fresh package. You could see
this yeast if very foamy this yeast is good we are all ready to use it in our receipt.
