I'm here to film the vegan slash vegetarian tag today
I just filmed another tag and I guess I was just in a tag filming mood.
I am vegan just to clear that up, I'm not vegetarian.
But the rest of the questions will pretty much answer all of that
So I'll just get started. How long have you been vegan?
That was number one. I've been a vegan since the beginning of last
September, so a year. Actually, it's my year anniversary right around now, well last week
I didn't even realize. Were you a vegetarian before becoming vegan?
Yes. I was vegetarian for 5 and a half years before. I went vegetarian around when I was 12
What did you family think? When I first went vegetarian, they were kind of surprised
because I didn't really hint about it beforehand. I didn't say "hmm I'm thinking about going vegetarian"
One day I just said "hey guys I'm a vegetarian now" and they just accepted it
Have you had any resistance from friends or family? From my family no.
My mom was already vegetarian, and still is. For the most part everyone was really accepting, they respected my choices
and never tried to force me to do anything else. Sometimes they'd make stupid jokes but you just brush that stuff off
Is it hard not eating meat? Absolutely not. Ever since I made the connection between what I was actually eating and what goes on
in order for me to be able to eat that food, it has never appealed to me at all
It grosses me out quite honestly. Once you know the pain and suffering that goes into the food you're eating
or that you're contributing to, you can't just eat it anymore and not think about it.
At least I can't. It's hard because once you make the connection, you see suffering in everything people are eating.
You have to learn to deal with that. Next, what are some of your favourite foods?
Oh my goodness, it's crazy because since going vegan (vegetarian too to a certain extent)
but vegan especially, my world of food has changed completely. In a good way. It's been opened up
to so many foods I never knew existed. So many vegetables, and just things that I never knew were out there.
Once you actually look into healthy food options, it's incredible. So my favourite foods...
I love lentils. I love whole grain rice. I love peanut butter. I love tempeh and tofu.
I love kale. I love spinach, chickpeas, beans, tofu chilli. I can't even think...
I love indian dishes, many of which are vegan and they will customize for you very easily. Oriental food is yummy. I just love everything.
I'm not super picky with what I eat. I just love all vegan food...
What are you favourite treats? I love camio chocolate, some of them do have milk, you have to really read the back. The mint one and coconut ones are vegan, as is the orange one,
I wish I had one here but I don't. The mint one is my favourite, I love mint.
For easter last year my mom surprised me with a bunch of those chocolate bars.
So Delicious fudge bars are another favourite of mine. I mentioned them in one of my healthy favourites videos
which I will link down below. If you're curious about what my favourite foods are, they're linked in the down bar!
Do you spend more of less on food since becoming vegan?
Well when I went vegan was really when I started buying my own groceries.
So yes I spend more but I wasn't buying my own groceries beforehand.
I don't think eating vegan has to be that much more expensive
because if you're actually on a budget, and you budget your food it's the same as budgeting every other way.
You can make a meal plan for the week and only buy the foods that you are going to need.
Will you raise your children if applicable vegan? I would love to. I'm defeintinely going to bring them up with vegetarian values
I mean I guess it depends on who I end up marrying....
It's a decision you want to make with your partner and right now I'm not dating someone who is vegetarian or vegan.
He's really accepting that I am though. I don't strictly look for vegetarians or vegans in
who I'm dating so I may very well end up marrying a non-vegan.
So I guess we would have to find a middle ground and to me middle ground is vegetarian.
I want my children to be informed. I'm never going to lie to them about what they're eating.
If my kid asks me "what's in that burger?" I'm going to say " you see that really cute calf over there? You just ate his mom"...
I mean obviously I'm not going to say exactly that but I'm just never going to lie to my kids about where
their food comes from. Children are very responsive. Once they find out what is actually going on
lots of the time they don't even want to eat meat anymore.
I've talking to vegetarian kids and they say "animals are my friend and I don't eat my friends"
It makes perfect sense to me. I love talking to vegetarian children because they've figured it out
and I wish I had done it when I was younger.
Anyways so I hope you enjoyed this video. I you have any more questions about
being vegan or vegetarian or health related questions, leave them down below.
I will get back to you on them. As you can tell from my bookshelf I love this kind of stuff.
That's it guys, thank you for watching, and click subscribe if you like my videos and want to see more.
