Is it good to feel hungry after a workout? I’ve heard that means you burned a lot more
calories than if you weren’t hungry.
You’ll burn just as many calories hungry as not hungry. However, if you are hungry
when you work out, you’ll probably slow down because of low blood sugar.
A heavy workout should lead to a hearty meal.
About a third of the population has a weak thirst signal, so they mistake thirst for
hunger. If you are always hungry after working out, try increasing your fluid intake.
Water usually reduces your appetite anyway.
If drinking a glass of water reduces your appetite dramatically, you were thirsty, not
hungry.
After a workout, I really crave a candy bar. And after all that work, I deserve it.
You’ll blow the whole purpose of the workout if you are trying to lose weight. You could
end up eating more calories than what you just burned.
I’ve heard that working out makes you hungry because you were burning all those calories.
People who are overweight are more likely to feel starving than those who are lean.
Their weight thermostats so to speak are set for a high weight, and they crave foods to
replenish the lost calories.
So I need to eat something healthy after the workout to avoid binging on ice cream.
Or eat a filling granola bar an hour before the workout so that you aren’t starving
afterward. Though you are fighting your hormones.
Usually just at that time of the month.
Women who are overweight are resistant to leptin, the hormone that exercise produces
that suppresses your hunger.
That’s like insulin resistance. Or worse, if it counteracts the efforts to lose weight.
You can reduce the effect by having protein before you workout. Protein bars or peanut
butter on celery would work well.
They both taste about as bad.
Forget the saying location, location, location. What matters is weight loss, weight loss,
weight loss.
In theory, I'd agree, but have you tasted those things? It almost makes you want to
not eat anything at all.
That might be the intent.
