We all know we're supposed to eat more fruits and vegetables to be healthy. We're also hearing
a lot about whole grains, and this one is a little less accessible, like "what is a
whole grain?" Is it rice? What is it? It is so nice to know that there are some products
we can buy that just give us the whole grains real easily in one box. My favorite one of
those is Kashi 7 Whole Grain Natural Pilaf. It's seven different grains in one box. The
instructions are on the box, you can cook it in water, and I'm going to show you 5 different
things you can do with just one batch of Kashi 7 Whole Grain Pilaf. Just cook it up and you
can do all sorts of things. Starting at the beginning of the day with breakfast, here's
my breakfast pilaf. They are all the same, they all start the same, this one is going
to become breakfast. Look at the assortment of things I can choose from, and you can even
choose more, this is just what I put out to show you. Several different kinds of nuts,
pecans, walnuts, almonds, raisins, dried cranberries, brown sugar. I'm just going to make a breakfast
Sunday out of this already cooked cereal with some green apple. I'm going to choose one
nut, I'm going to choose the walnut, coconut, brown sugar. This is going to look a little
bit gaudy but it's going to be fun gaudy. Dried Cranberries. I added just a little but
of raisins, some milk, could also be yogurt, and this is a great breakfast to have at home
or take with you and have at work. Portable, inexpensive, delicious. Let's make three different
diner side dishes out of the same batch of Pilaf. With this one, I'm going to some garlic,
a little bit of garlic, this is just a single serving I'm showing you so a touch of garlic,
a drizzle of olive oil, and some very well cooked red onions, very pretty in there. They're
so pretty I don't even want to mix them all the way in, and a little bit of sauteed mixed
mushrooms. So a savory pilaf for dinner, you can make this ahead of time, make it in the
microwave. How delicious does that look? Just beautiful. The next one I'll do a different
group of flavors, again you can mix and match and you can get creative with all of this.
Here's more garlic, garlic is kind of a building block that I use often. This is minced fresh
mint leaves, just look goes beautifully, it goes in a sweet direction, it goes in a savory
direction, and actually the pilaf can absorb a lot of mint. So I put a lot in. Pie nuts
are delicious in this, adds some crunch, the grains are chewy, the pie nuts add crunch.
And a little bit of lemon juice and garnish with a wedge of lemon. Looks delicious.
So our third side dish, the same pilaf, this time I'm going the direction of parsley. Olive
oil again, I use olive oil in so many things. Beautiful circles of scallion greens. Some
dried currants, could also be dried blueberries, which would be incredible. Some dried apricots
are a really nice combination of sweet and savory. Another great thing you can do with
great Pilaf is you can make burritos out of it. It's a great quick inexpensive dinner.
Just put the pilaf with beans, salsa, guacamole, and some cheese. Then roll it up and you've
got yourself a great dinner. Kashi 7 whole grain Pilaf is the springboard from which
you can get really creative with your cooking at the same time as you're getting healthy,
it's a wonderful thing
