It was actually inspired when my husband Andrew and myself were on a work assignment at Monash University's campus in Malaysia.
Monash is an Australian University which set up its first campus in Malaysia.
During that time we realized how privileged we were to be in Australia...
And the richness of communities and cultures that were available.
Having said that, during our time in Malaysia we also realized that there were several young people...
Who lived in circumstances which were well below the privileges that were afforded to youth especially in Western Australia.
I think the main success of Journey Towards hope today and why its still going on...
Is because of the feedback that I get.
Just so often.
One that I got in the mail yesterday was from the students of Girraween Senior High School...
After they'd done a performance on March 15 for Harmony Day.
This card which was absolutely beautiful in what its contents were...
It had inputs like "Thank you so much for having me step out of my comfort zone and experience something that's different that I have come to enjoy"
And things like "It was so strange. It was so weird. But it was so fun and I wouldn't have known it"
And statements like "Bollywood movies don't do justice to the true experience."
It gives me a whole load of... almost an opportunity to relive what I've missed out...
As a child I grew up in an environment where "good girls don't dance" and there weren't too many opportunities for dancers.
