Hi guys,
I am currently living in Europe and we are experiencing an Indian Summer here. The rain
shower had passed and I was riding my bicycle on the still damp road. It was sunny, mild
and the clouds had moved on. I was running on automatic and my mind had time to wander.
As I moved a bit to the left to avoid a left-over puddle of water in the road I remembered a
challenge I had issued quite a long time ago, where I asked everyone who felt justified
in thinking the KCA or Kalam Cosmological Argument was in any way valid, to please define
what "begin to exist” means.
A few have tried, but when they understood the real problem, they fell silent and left.
A Muslim challenged me to refute the "Clearest Rational Argument for the Existence of a Creator”,
which was based on Kalam, only replacing the Universe with a movement of the arm. When
I did he was really angry and frustrated and resorted to questioning my character and personality.
Another joined in and made really stupid statements showing neither one of them knew anything
about logics or epistemology.
None of them even attempted to answer my question and challenge to explain and define as from
when a puddle begins to exist.
Begin to exist
How can something begin to exist?
To begin could have a temporal causality, so there must be a defined point in time when
something begins.
A beginning can also have a physical causality which necessitates a set of coordinates at
which point or at which location something begins.
What is also possible is that this denotes a chemical or physical condition, where the
consistency or states of atoms change.
So how does this apply to a puddle? When does or when can a puddle begin to exist?
A puddle always consists of a liquid, never a solid or a gas.
Since we rarely experience a puddle of special edition Clive Christian perfume or liquid
nitrogen we most often consider water to be the contents of a puddle. When does this begin?
This somehow reminds me of Hamza and Muslims like him – or any theist for that matter
– who all frantically try and find some sort of justification for their belief that
a superior and super-natural being exists and created everything. They can’t answer
the most basic questions and frantically shift to a different topic and point.
It’s as though they are the puddle of water, filling a dent in a road, which looks around
and thinks:
"This is neat! I am surrounded by something here which is exactly what I need! Another
2 centimeters lower and I would be too shallow and 2 centimeters more narrow and I would
overflow. So this is exactly the shape, form and capacity I need.”
"This world and the entire planet, even the entire Universe, with everything in it, provides
me with exactly what I need and must be designed around me - and for my existence.”
"I am sure that the superior being which created this Universe had me in mind and created the
Universe, this Galaxy, this solar system, this planet and this road to make my being
possible.”
Ooops
