I'm Gillian Wesley, welcome to the Local Traveler. We're in New Hampshire, exploring craft beer,
and today we're at Milly's Tavern. Milly's Tavern is a craft brew pub in Manchester,
New Hampshire. It started as a craft brewery in 1994, called the Stark Mill Brewery. It
re-opened as Milly's in 2002 under the same owner and brewer.
Milly's is located right in the heart of New Hampshire University's Manchester Campus.
It is Manchester's only craft brew pub. "I'm going to try out one of their samplers
of beer, they brew all of their beer here in-house. They have 18 different beer on-tap
at any given time." We tried 7 ranging from pale and cream ales,
to sour beer, to porter. My dad, who was accompanying me for the day, said the experience totally
changed his opinion on a few stye of beer that he had previously written off, most notably,
their John Stark Porter. "So we've just made it through our flight
of beer, I can attest that all of them were delicious, but the food here is actually really
good, as well. This chilli was voted best in New Hampshire, and it's made with their
Milly's Oatmeal Stout and pairs really really well with the John Stark Porter."
They have a number of lunch items for only $5. Milly's also has merchandise, 64 ounce
growlers, and an ice cream shop on-site. They have a big venue with a pool table and they
regularly host concerts and other live entertainment. If you plan to visit a lot, check out their
Mug Club, which gets you beer for $2.50 anytime, or only $1 during Happy Hour.
"Well now that we've had our fill of beer and food, we're going to see what else Manchester
has to offer." Manchester officially became a city in 1846.
IT was home to a number of textile buildings, including the largest cotton mill in the world.
Today, many of the businesses in Manchester, including the University of NEw Hampshire's
Manchester campus, are located in re-purposed textile mills.
"If you're in New Hampshire, a visit to Manchester to stop into Milly's is a must. And if you're
not considering going there soon, you may want to change your travel plans."
