Hi, my name is Josefina Lundgren Skerk. I am a Sami and I am from Sweden.
When I grew up I was taught that all issues are environmental issues,
and I was taught how I show appreciation of my friends and family by respecting and appreciate nature.
And that is why I am passionate about what is happening in the Arctic Council today.
It is so incredibly important, not just to me, and my family, but for the climate of our entire planet.
Since the ice of the Arctic effects what is happening around the globe.
And the Arctic Council gathers in Kiruna 15th of May to make decisions of the future of the Arctic.
I hope that they will make decisions that ensures that we will have a planet to pass on to future generations,
instead of making decisions that will make profit for the next ten to thirty years ahead.
Right now the oil companies are planning to drill for oil near the ice, even though we know that we have to leave the oil in the ground if we are to stop climate change beyond two degrees.
And we do not even know how to separate oil from ice during an oil spill.
So it is so important that the Arctic Council decides to protect the Arctic, and ban destructive industries in the north.
And it is so important from a Sami perspective, since the mining companies,
which come to our land will change our culture forever, unless something happens and if no decisions are made.
So I hope that we all can gather and decide to protect the Arctic.
