Smart people often make foolish mistakes.
Geniuses often can't find their way home at night.
People with doctorates lock their keys in the car.
Successful business men many times don't even know how to talk to their families.
John Kennedy Jr. was a smart man,
but an inexperienced pilot.
Late one afternoon he, his wife, and his sister-in-law
climbed into his privately owned airplane and they took off.
They were traveling from New York to Martha's Vineyard to attend a wedding.
Everything was going fine until they got out over the open water.
There they ran into heavy fog and clouds.
It was very important for him to know, as the pilot,
which way was up.
Instead of trusting his instruments,
apparently, he trusted in his own instincts,
flying, as they say, by the seat of his pants.
This was a deadly mistake
because the plane went down into the water,
and all lives were lost.
This is a lot like our lives.
Many times we fly through our lives
trusting in our own instincts to make our decisions, flying by the seat of our pants.
instead of upon the reliable instruments of Jesus Christ.
This often results in destruction coming into our lives.
How can you avoid making foolish mistakes?
Provebs 1:7 says, 'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.'
This means that knowing, trusting, and obeying Jesus
will help us to know which way is up no matter what we're going through in life.
And we will usually know the right thing to do.
Even smart people often make foolish mistakes.
Is God guiding you? Or are you flying into a foolish mistake?
