In this short tutorial we want to make you aware of two additional databases you may want to use in completing this assignment
ProQuest Health and Medicine and Health Reference Center Academic.
While most databases offer similar features and have similar search interfaces, it is
important to realize that databases index and include a slightly different mix of sources. It may be necessary to check a few different databases
To access ProQuest Health and Medicine just go to the HIT LibGuide and the "Find Articles" tab, and link to the indexes here.
From the initial search screen go to the advanced search link.
As you can see the search screen looks much like the one demonstrated in the previous tutorials.
Let's do a quick search with the term "Health Insurance" as a subject and "and" this with the subject "fraud."
Note that from this pull-down menu
you can also search for a particular document title if you wish.
We are going to look for this word as a subject
and "and" it with fraud
and choose "subject"
for that
and we'll save time by
choosing only full text articles and then we'll hit the search button
With over 500 articles we need to further limit the search
As we did before let's view only articles published after 2005
by using this "slider"
and we will update the search.
Let's sort these results by the most recent first
To view a summary or abstract of the article place the cursor over the preview link.
This article about the "recovery audit contractors" looks interesting.
By clicking on the title link we have additional options.
Full text is displayed in HTML format.
If we want to view the article as it actually appeared in the magazine
just access the pdf file here. We can print or e- mail
by choosing these links at the top. To generate an APA citation, we just click on the "cite" link.
Be sure to choose APA format.
Again, be sure that you watch for formatting errors.
The permanent link, or what this index calls the "document URL" can be found at the bottom of the article.
Another index you might want to try is Health Reference Center Academic which we can access
from the H.I.T. LibGuide on the "Find Articles" tab.
After linking to the index click on "proceed."
Let's try the same search we performed on the other database.
Now we can use the pull-down menu here
and we can also use this pull-down menu to search under publication title if we wanted to.
And I'll "and" it with the subject fraud.
And we can limit our results to
only full text articles and we'll do the search.
We've retrieved almost 90 articles
As in the other databases you are able to sort results by relevance or by date.
You can also select articles by the type of publication. This index does not offer a preview
feature but by clicking on the title you have additional options from the tools menu.
Note that you can view the article in several languages
and sometimes can access an audio version of the article.
The "permanent" url or what they call document url is to be found on this screen under the information about the article.
Generating an APA citation
is a multi-step process.
Click on "citation tools"
choose APA format
and click save.
An APA citation will be generated but as before, be careful about format mistakes.
Using the H.I.T. LibGuide and the sources listed there,
you should find more than enough material for your assignment and will hopefully
learn more about database research in general. Thanks for listening!
