Hello, I’m really pleased to inform you that we have passed
an important milestone on the road towards the creation of the Agence des infrastructures de transport du Québec.
I have tabled, in the National Assembly,
a bill that establishes all the conditions for the creation of this agency.
The elected officials of Québec will comment
the bill, improve it and, in due course,
vote on its adoption. The people and organizations concerned
by the bill will also have the opportunity to express their opinion in parliamentary committee.
The new government agency will have to focus on maintaining
and enhancing its expertise to provide the public with better services.
We wish to create an independent and efficient organization with the ability to manage, in a rigorous manner,
the amounts invested by the Québec population to improve road infrastructures,
our collective heritage. Québec citizens
demand that we make more and better use of their money.
The mission of the Agence will be to maintain and improve the road network.
Its mandate will be to plan, schedule, design and monitor maintenance
and improvement work on the network.
The Agence will also be in charge of operating and maintaining the network
throughout the territory via its territorial directorates.
However, the government does not forget its main responsibilities, which consist
in providing Québec with an integrated vision for transportation. This is why the ministère des Transports
remains and will continue to define the orientations and broad policies for the transportation sector.
The Agence will have to collaborate with the Ministère
to facilitate the mobility of people and goods throughout our territory.
I sincerely believe that the Agence des infrastructures de transport du Québec
will constitute a modern, effective and efficient tool
to meet the transportation challenges of the 21st century.
Thank you.
