In May 2010, a group of 400 people including students and residents were in Monte Serrat (community), Santos (city), to make a dream come true. The result: a beautiful square, lots of learning and a relationship of friendship and cooperation among students and the community.
Oasis is a cooperative game of citizen mobilization
where we'll dream with the community a collective dream and build it together, quickly, in two days.
The oasis is an open space where we invite the community to get together and transform a common place in a dreamed one.
Guys, I'm from this community, my name is Josildo, I've lived here for 44 years
we are engaged in the oasis project...
the university staff came and invited us to the project, which has been embraced throughout the community, especially for me.
Well, I think that as a teacher, as human being is very nice to be here and participate in all this
I think, increasingly, we need a lot of Oasis throughout the world.
We are raising professionals for a new time
Who'll be able to be friends of each other, who'll be able to work in nets, considering the collective
In a creative, free and pleasant way. Always building together, the world we wish.
One more win, you know... It's the second Oasis that Unimontes (university's name) is doing
The first one was in Alemoa, the second is being here at Mount Serrat, the third one we don't know yet.
But I think it's great to see students participating and contributing many times with what they know
something they've learned in their courses and they're applying here...
in the 'hands-on', at the 'miracle's time'. We're doing theory becomes reality.
At the beginning looked to be craziness... to have to conquer (convince) the whole community and so on...
but now... running ... with all the guys involved in the process, and the community...
I believe that tomorrow will be even better.
I'm happy... so happy and excited.
It was a great learning experience, you know...
of living with a community... I've never had an opportunity this big.
Thus... as an oceanography's student, you know, we are always standing for enviromental sustainability,...
and for sustainable development. So, to see that we can renew an area without using a lot of material...
less than we've already had... using what we have within our reach... (IMPLIED: is realy cool)
The idea was to realize a dream of the community, but I'm saying that for me, was like to realize a dream of mine
and I feel young and ready to make new Oasis in new communities, ever... that's it.
