I'm Gabe Garza with today's health news. Teens and tobacco are not a good combination. And
a new survey shows teens aren't backing away from the smoke like they used to. The CDC
reported that their most recent survey showed teen tobacco use was unchanged from the last
survey in 2011. Electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use has climbed, however. The CDC notes that
tobacco is the most preventable cause of death in the US. Smoking is known to increase the
risk of lung cancer and has been linked to asthma, emphysema and heart disease. The 2015
National Youth Tobacco Survey collected data on teens in the US. According to the survey,
4.7 million middle and high school students used at least one form of tobacco in the preceding
30 days. Parents, talk to your child about the long-term health effects of tobacco use.
