Alright guys, Daniel Durbin here. As you see behind me it is I HEART UHCL Day
We've got a lot of different departments and associations all showing their school spirit
So what where going to do is were going to go through and talk to some people
and see how they're engaging in today's activities
Alright, let's go have a look
Hundreds of students, staff and alumni joined together to celebrate the 5th anual IHEARTUHCL day
From playing games to testing your brain, IHEARTUHCL day had fun activities
for everyone in attendance, including myself
First I eased into the magic scene by dressing up as a powerful wizard
but I soon retired the wand to rock out with my hawk out
I'm here with Jeremy with Student Like Organization. Alright Jeremy, so what do we have behind us?
Jeremy: We've got a hawk right here, and we're featuring the name today.
It hasn't been announced yet but stayed tuned, in just a few moments you'll figure out what the name is
Just as he said, the announcement was made shortly after, our new mascot's name is...
Hunter the Hawk
We caught up with an excited President Staples,
as well as voices around the university to gauge their reaction
Daniel: Do you think the name Hunter was a good characterization of UHCL?
Staples: I think so, to me when you think of a mascot, and a hawk in particular,
hawks are adventuresome, they're dynamic, they're spirited, and that's really what we want UH Clear Lake students to be
Bradley: We had an amazing, amazing, reaction towards the name of the hawk
and, I think, I haven't seen as many people from last year and this year so this is a really great turnout
Cardenas: I think this was a great way to show the university how we love this campus
It was a great historic moment. We gave the mascot, our hawk, the name and it was just a great way
for the entire campus community: faculty, staff, students, even alumni
to come and show their love for our university. I mean, we all came here for a reason.
other than, you know, education, getting the degrees for the careers but also to have
a campus experience while here getting our degrees
The unveiling of the mascot's name was not only event that took place today
The student life office also revealed the names of the I HEART UHCL contest winners
Daniel: Alright guys,so how do you feel about winning?
Velugula: Awesome! We're in a sugar rush right now.
Daniel: So are y'all crashing or y'all still peaking?
Girls: We're Peaking!
Daniel: Peaking. Alright so y'all are going for at least another hour before you crash out
Velugula: Our wings are still flying!
Martinez: It was a great experience and we're going to do it next year so be ready!
Daniel: So what gave y'all the idea of becoming fairies?
Martinez: We just sat down and we were like talking about it and I was like "Hey we can be fairies!"
and they're like "yeah! we can be fairies" so we became the fairies
Daniel: Well y'all are definitely soaring today, y'all look lovely.
Thank you very much ladies, appreciate it.
How do you feel?
Khalifa: I feel great because I get to represent staff, so it's good that we have that spirit as well
and it's feels great, and I'm reppin' up my office: orientation and new student programs
Alright everyone, I'm standing here with Hunter the Hawk, UHCL mascot
Hunter, so how do you feel about your name?
Alright, you're definitely feeling the school spirit today, looks like it
We had a great turnout, you're looking good as always. So you're going to go party tonight?
No...good answer. Studying! I like that.
Well that'll do it for us at I HEART UHCL day. It's been a lot of fun, had a lot of
different activities and different contest winners. Don't forget to search for us at #IHEARTUHCL
