Hello and welcome to Cupcake Addiction's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Cupcake Tutorial. Lots
of requests from you guys to make something Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle so here it is.
Tools and equipment that we will be using today.
I have a little bit of cornflour in a shaker. You can also use icing sugar.
I've got a circular cookie cutter. That's a 3 and a half inch or 9 centimeter.
I've got a cupcake. I've baked mine in a green cupcake liner to team with the theme today
A little bit of black liquid. You can also use paste food coloring.
I've got a Loyal number 13 piping tip. I'm just going to use that to cut out the holes
for the eyes. And 13 just means that it's just 13 ml. across the top. So if you don't
have one of those, have a look around for something that you've got that's about that
size. I've got a little bit of our perfectly pipeable
buttercream frosting that I've tinted green. I just did that so it sort of goes with the
rest of the cupcake. And also so that if I get it on the fondant it's not as noticeable
as if it were white or brown. I've got some fondant in green, red and a
little bit of white. I will be doing Rafael today which is why I'm going with the red
bandana. You can see the rest of the gang over here.
A plain knife. A fondant roller, a regular roller will do.
A pizza cutter, very appropriate for these guys.
A sharp knife. And a paintbrush.
Let's get started. Firstly we want to frost this cupcake because
we're going to pop it into the freezer for that frosting to set. So I'm going to take
some of that lovely frosting and just spoon it on, knife it on to the cupcake. Pushing
it all the way down to the edges. Try not to get it in the outside lines of the cupcake
liner or the patty pan. And turn into our nice little fondant some. We want this to
be quite high. It does look like a lot of frosting but we're going to shave a little
bit off it. So a nice high dome, just like that and smooth it off.
Now from here, you want to sort of make the shape of our turtle face. So what I'm going
to do is just bring my knife down and scrape away a little bit of that frosting. So you
can see there I've just come down and I've made... This is going to be our turtle's nose
and that's going to be where his eyes sit. So just like that. You can see there that
bit of an angle. It doesn't have to be perfect but you're really going to use the frosting
to make the shape of this turtle. Smooth it off as best as you can. Now that one is going
to go into the freezer for about 5 minutes. You don't want to froze him solid. You just
want that frosting to set a little bit. So 5 minutes in the freezer.
Okay, so our turtles had its 5 minutes in the freezer and it's firm to touch but it's
certainly not frozen. I can still squeeze that nice soft base of the cupcake. You definitely
do not want to freeze it. And if you do accidentally freeze them just defrost them back down again.
You just want firm icing, definitely not frozen. Alright, take a little bit of that green fondant,
roll it into a ball and squish it into a disc. Pop out some of that cornflour to prepare
the surface, nice little wipe around in there just to really coat the back of it. And we're
just going to roll out enough that we can cut one of those circles.
Taking your circle cutter, cut out a nice circle. And we're going to lay that over the
top. Now we don't need to use water or anything like that to apply this fondant to the turtle,
just laying it in the center. We're going to start pushing it over at the back and then
I'm just going to use my finger just to fill in that little groove we've made for the eyes.
So you can see there because we've frozen it slightly, your buttercream frosting is
not all slipping and sliding around underneath. It's staying quite firm.
You will notice that it gets a little bit of a shine to it. You can see down here, I've
got one turtle who's quite shiny. I've just made him. And the other two, I made yesterday.
So this is why I tell you not to completely freeze it. When you do put it in the freezer,
you add in a little bit of extra moisture and the moisture will actually just taint
the fondant a little bit. Just neatening around the edges there. You
can see there, I've got a really nice finish. Before that shine starts to come through just
make sure you've rounded it off nicely and you're happy. Once it does starts to look
like this, it is quite shiny, try to touch it as little as possible.
So working quite quickly now, I'm going to take some of that red fondant, roll it out
into a bit of a sausage and just press it down. I'm just pressing it down to really
just get the shape started and it's less rolling for us. Roll it out. And taking that pizza
cutter, I'm just going to cut a bit of bandana size piece. So with my piece, the one thing
that you do want to check when you're actually measuring your thickness is that your piping
tip is going to be able to cut 2 holes in there and not tear one of the sides. So just
hold it over there, make sure that you've got something that is thick enough that you're
not going to lift it up and have one of those little sides of the eye holes stretch and
rip. Taking that piping tip or whatever you're
using to cut in the center -- 1 and 2 little eye holes. And then, we're just going to lay
that over the top. If your fondant hasn't gone at all sticky,
you can use a little bit of water to attach this and I'm just going to push it down and
push it all the way down to the edges so that it meets up nicely. You can use your knife
if you've got a little bit of excess there and just cut it off so that it's lovely and
neat. Now you also want to cut here just an extra
little strip. It doesn't really matter how thick or thin it is and that's going to be
the little side of our bandana. So for that, I'm just going to fold it over like so, tear
it off -- you don't want it to be too long -- and just point the edges, point the ends.
Take it over and pop it on whichever side you like. Once again, if you're having trouble
with it sticking, I'm just using the moisture that is actually in the fondant from the freezer.
If you're having trouble with it sticking, just use a little bit of plain water.
Here's our turtle starting to take shape. Now leave these 2 little red bits that you've
cut out of the eyes. We're going to use those, so grab some of your white fondant now and
just roll out a little ball. A little bit less than that I think. Flatten it out and
pop it into the eyes. Because you've already cut your little holes you really just want
to fill in those little holes. You can see there, you don't really need to cut it out
with a piping tip or anything like that. You're really just filling in that little hole that
you've already made. If you love our tutorials, make sure that
you subscribe to our channel. We upload several times a week and we are always trying to wow
and amaze you with the things that we come out with when it comes to cupcakes, cakepops
and cake decorating. Alright, so there you have your Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtle so far. Now with that other little bit of white fondant,
we want to roll out really really thin just a little piece for his mouth. So in that cornflour,
give it a little swipe around. Take your roller. Nice and thin, thin as you can.
And then we'll take the pizza cutter. And I'm just going to cut sort of a long teardrop
type shape so this is going to be the little mouth. And this is how I've decided to do
the mouth. If you want them to be a bit smilier or anything like that, you just certainly
can. This is just how I remember the Ninja Turtles. This is how I think of them. You
can see there, I've got a bit of a teardrop-y type shape, a long teardrop type shape. Just
position that. That's actually a little bit big. That's a
bit better. Just position that on to the face over to the side. Lovely.
And it's time to get our black food coloring and just paint on some of these little details.
So just dipping into that black food color. And I'm just going to start with the mouth.
Now I'm just going to edge the mouth. So I'm just going to take those 2 little eye
bits that we cut off out of the bandana. Roll them into, I guess, like a little teardrop
shape and that's going to make our hot, tough, looking eyebrow. Just stick it on top. Just
gives them a bit of expression and makes them look a bit more ninja like.
So there you have your great Ninja Turtle cupcakes. You've got all four of them there.
You can make as many or as few as you like. I think you'll agree, they're sure to please
the Ninja Turtle fan in your family. We hope that you've enjoyed this tutorial.
