Fantastic Provence with L'Occitane
presents
Ballet Preljocaj and the Pavillon Noir
Ballet Preljocaj is a contemporary dance company
founded in 1984 by choreographer Angelin Preljocaj.
The company settled in Aix en Provence in 1996
and entered the Pavillon Noir in October 2006.
The Pavillon is a tool, a building designed specially for teh company by french architect Rudy Ricciotti.
The idea is to imagine a space dedicated to contemporary dance creations.
This space is a work tool for Ballet Preljocaj
but also for companies we welcome in residence.
These dance companies are welcome to use all spaces of the Pavillon Noir,
from the four studios to the major scene,
key to finalize the creative process.
Gnagna Gueye
choreographer in residence at the Pavillon Noir
We are a link between the artists that work i our walls and the public of the region.
We set up public rehearsals
that allow aeveryone to enter the performance hall and discover the dancers at work.
This initiative makes possible the discovery of an artists process,
understand research et experimentation, to fully sense the performance.
The architect had very little space to design the Pavillon Noir,
that's why he decided to superimpose floors
and work on a hollow architecture.
The structure features no bearing walls so that as much space as possible can be dedicated to dancing.
