Hi! My name is Jes. I am a blogger, baker, and troublemaker! I am the voice behind The
Militant Baker and I'm also the advocate behind the "Attractive and Fat" campaign. I am here
today to tell you about my newest project, something I've been working on for nearly
a year. It is called: The Body Love Conference. The Body Love Conference will be an all-day
event, here in Tucson, Arizona, where women will be able to come together and explore
the revolutionary concepts of self-love and body acceptance. As women, we see over 200
negative body image advertisements on TV -- per day. This is an extension of a historical
marketing scheme that was created to forever encourage women to purchase perfection. While
this earns the weight loss industry billions of dollars per year, it comes at an extremely
high cost to the rest of us. It is a large contributor towards major social ills we have,
including: depression, eating disorders, low self-esteem, poor relationship skills, suicide
attempts and more. This is an issue that needs to be talked about, and I propose the perfect
conversation starter is the Body Love Conference. The Body Love Conference will be a high-energy,
positive and progressive event where women can come together to build a community through
a supportive environment while participating in presentations and workshops that will cover
topics like: the history of the beauty myth, the concept of aging, post-birth bodies, body-positive
yoga, burlesque, and bellydancing, writing, poetry workshops, and more. "OMG Jes how can
I help you!? This sounds so wonderful!" Well, we can use your support through donations.
We're going to raise $10,000 to put on this life-changing event. The funds that we raise
will be used for the facility fees, catering, classroom materials, to fly in our keynote
speaker, and also to keep the ticket prices as low as we can so that all can attend. We
will also have a scholarship fund, for those who might not be able to purchase tickets.
We have 30 days to make this happen, and I know we can do it.
It is my belief that every woman deserves the opportunity to learn to love herself just the way she is, to internalize
that beauty is all-inclusive. I have a feeling this conference will be a world changer, and
I hope you'll support me and my mission. And thank you in advance!
