OLM supports communication through the discussion and notifications tools.
The discussion feature is accessed either trough the blue header bar,
or the appropriate button under the Communication header.
Discussions are tied to students and competencies.
First, select a group of students,
and then the competency you want to discuss.
Clicking the “discuss” button opens the current discussion
at the bottom of the page.
To submit a post, type the message in the window at the bottom of the page,
and click the “post” button.
The discussion will update automatically as comments are being posted,
and the content will remain after the page is closed.
It may be used synchronously,
with several parties participating in a discussion at once,
or across a large period of time.
Notifications are used to keep track of changes to the model
carried out by students.
They are accessed by clicking either of the appropriately
named buttons in the menu bar at the top of the screen
or under the Communication heading.
Notifications appear in real time,
and the number of unread notifications is displayed in the menu bar.
In the notifications tool,
all unread notifications are displayed as a list.
Marking a notification as “read” will make it disappear.
To mark a notification as read,
click the red “X” next to the notification,
or use the “mark all notifications as read” button at the top of the list.
