Today is a big day as we are inaugurating
the Fire and Rescue Services
at Lyon-Bron airport,
having replaced our old out-dated premises
with a brand new and highly practical fire station,
spacious, and which fulfills all our operational needs.
This fire station represents an investment of 1.5 million euros:
400m2 of out-buildings, 300m2 of living space,
a kitchen, sleeping quarters, a gym and a lounge area.
The Rescue Services at Lyon-Bron is part of
the Rescue Services at Lyon Airports,
which totals 61 fire-fighters,
10 of which work at Lyon-Bron airport.
Lyon-Bron is an airport with heightened security,
so we have a new vehicle,
able to carry a certain amount of water and suds.
It's a VIM 90 which can carry 9,000 litres of water,
guaranteeing a flow of 4,500 litres per minute.
At least two firefighters are present in the fire station 24/7.
They may also be called to carry out other security tasks
TEXTsuch as monitoring refuelling or wildlife hazards.
The most important thing in their jobs, however, remains rescue,
with manoeuvers, training and sport,
that's not forgetting equipment maintenance.
