For the most part, a child that's
been charged with a juvenile crime
has the opportunity to resolve their matter
and put it behind them without causing future harm,
except in cases where the charges against the child
are very serious.
If it's a sex-related crime, if it's a violent crime,
then there's a very distinct possibility
that a juvenile, under 18 years old,
could find their case being transferred
to the adult system.
The good news is that you have the right to a hearing
to challenge the transfer of a juvenile case
into the adult court.
And this is really important.
Because if your case goes to the adult courts,
the consequences are typically much more severe,
including incarceration in the state prison,
including having a conviction on your record that
will stay with you for a substantial period of time
and could hamper a juvenile's ability
to segue into adult life.
