David O.Russell's American Hustle and Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave are among the nomination
frontrunners at this year's Oscars, and on the day the nods were announced, both helmers
hit the red carpet at the Critic's Choice Awards in LA.
A lot of them, and the quality is extraordinary this year, extraordinary. I am happy to be in
amongst them really.
I am very grateful about it. I am very grateful to be part of it at all.
David O. Russell's 1970s con-men caper American Hustle and Alfonso Cuaron's space thriller
Gravity each got ten Academy Award nominations, while Steve McQueen's brutal depiction of
slavery secured nine. All three films garnered nods for best picture and best director, and
there was a best actor nomination for Chiwetel Ejiofor.
I wasn't planning on actually getting up for it, but I was wide awake at 5:15, 5:20. So,
I went on the computer and watched the live feed.
At the Critics' Choice Awards, which are seen as an Oscars signpost, 12 Years a Slave won
the top prize. American Hustle picked up best comedy, while
Leo DiCaprio won best comedy actor for Wolf Of Wall Street. And Gravity wasn't left out.
There was a best comedy actress gong for Sandra Bullock, who got a bit sweary during her acceptance speech.
