LANINGHAM: Welcome to This Week on developerWorks.
I'm Scott Laningham in Austin, Texas.
Well, this is our next to the last show of the year for 2012.
We'll take a break after next week and then we'll be gone for, I think, two weeks maybe?
We return the first week of January.
But before we go, I wanted to share just a few holiday gift ideas with you for those
of you in the gift giving mindset.
First of all, how could you miss with the developerWorks poster?
We don't sell them, but all I did was go to our site, copy the JPEG of our logo
and go to a copy shop and make my own sign.
I think that would be outstanding anywhere in your office,
in your house, in your bedroom, anywhere.
It's a lovely piece of art.
You'll see I've got another smaller one back there, you can make it at any size you want.
Secondly, Grady Booch designed this cool t-shirt -- I don't know if you'll remember this --
"What if developerWorks ruled the world?"
"They do." I like that t-shirt.
That's from Grady Booch.
I don't know if it's available, but anyway, you can make your own, I guess.
Or check with Grady on his website.
The IBM Bee -- you can see a picture of it right here.
Of course, the IBM stuffed bee is always a holiday favorite.
As well as the dancing IBM man.
I love this little wind-up IBM man, just endless hours of entertainment.
And then probably the last thing I was thinking would be maybe some kind of a pirate hat.
There's lots of pirate stores everywhere on every corner, pretty much.
And I borrowed this one from my seven-year old,
it's kind of tight, but I thought it would be fun.
Anyway, some silly ideas for you.
Not great ones, but you know, just trying to do my part.
Anyway, let's get on to the business at hand.
Here's our short list of some content we'd
like to draw your attention to this week on developerWorks.
From the Rational topic area, author and IBM developer Millard Ellingsworth talks
about his new article on Rational Team Concert
ELLINGSWORTH: I'm Millard Ellingsworth,
a member of the Rational Team Concert development team.
I wrote the new article on how to customize Rational Team Concert Scrum template
to support effective "backlog grooming."
The article is titled, Get ready to sprint with Rational Team Concert.
And when you read it, you will learn about the practice of backlog grooming
and how it helps keep your agile team running at full speed.
I demonstrate some simple RTC cutomizations that will help support this practice including how
to create a new backlog grooming view for your product backlog.
LANINGHAM: From the XML topic area, author and founder of Melonfire, Vikram Vaswani,
shows us how to create REST applications with the Slim micro-framework.
Slim is a full-featured open source micro- framework for PHP application development.
It comes with a sophisticated URL router and middleware architecture that makes it ideal
for static websites or API prototyping.
This article examines Slim in detail, illustrating how you can use it to rapidly build
and deploy a REST API with support for authentication
and multiple request response formats.
Of course, you've heard from author, speaker and CTO of App47,
Andy Glover here over the last two weeks.
This week, we want to plug his Java Technical Podcast Series on developerWorks.
It's in Season 5, and this year Andy's been focusing his interviews on the technologies,
companies and people influencing cloud computing.
Recorded over a three-month period, Andy spoke with established players
about their interest including CloudBees and Heroku as well
as exciting newcomers like Jelastic and NuoDB.
And that's not all.
If you're working in the cloud, you don't want to miss a single interview.
Andy Glover's Java Technical Podcast Series on developerWorks.
Lastly, from the security topic area, Rita Raj is senior developer at IBM,
writes about sending system notifications
to social media using IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator.
TDI easily integrates with a wide variety of environments with minimal disruptions.
Its plug-and-play nature provides easy prototyping and implementation.
In this article, learn how to use the TDI framework to extend integration components
and gain easy access to a range of management tools.
The tools help you perform system configuration and send real-time notifications
to external applications and to social media sites such as Twitter.
Well, that's it for This Week on developerWorks.
Read it all and a lot more at ibm.com/developerworks,
and follow our developerWorks new media blog at bit.ly/tdodw.
That's B-I-T.LY/twodw.
I'm Scott Laningham.
Talk to you next time.
