>> When I think about how ASHA [phonetic] has been a value
to me and what it's meant to me as a professional,
I have to look through my career.
And when I first started out as a new graduate and a CFY,
ASHA really gave guidance.
There were the beacon, they were a way to kind of set my goals
on what I wanted to do, where I wanted to be.
They gave me parameters.
Restrictions, guidelines, support.
Later on, as I moved through my profession
and changed what I was doing, the scope of practice
that ASHA provides offered the opportunities
that I might otherwise have missed.
You know, a kind of mid-career shift,
you think, "What am I doing now?
Why am I doing it this way?"
And people like to change.
I like a lot of variety and so, ASHA's supported me in that way.
They've given me those, more choices
that were meaningful and helpful.
Later on, now that I've been doing this for 20 years,
and I say that with a very small voice, "20 years,"
ASHA is really family.
I laugh; we get together once a year
and we're all a little different, a little funky,
but ASHA also has my back.
ASHA has essentially been my co-pilot through my career
and it's been more helpful than I can describe.
