METHENY: Well, right now one of the big things that we're trying to do is promote awareness.
A lot of people in the community, since Boone is a smaller community, thinks that there
is no homelessness in Boone, especially with youth. And so, we're really trying to promote
awareness because there are a lot of youth, even in rural Iowa, who are homeless at this
time.
Well, of course, we always need spaces for the youth to live. But it’s a circular process.
So we need the case management to educate the youth of what good jobs and stuff like
that. Or we need jobs so they can get work and ultimately not be homeless anymore. And
then they need a house to live while they're going through this. Because a lot of people
wouldn’t want to hire someone if they’re considered homeless.
And so we need the home for them. We need to find them a job. And then a lot of times
they need the skills, life skills, that they need to ... some of these youth don't even
know how to fill out a resume. So we need that case management aspect as well so that
they can learn. And it's all a circular thing because it’s going to lead from one to the
other. So, that's what we're doing. 1
