FRAM - or Ferroelectric RAM - is a memory
technology that combines the best of RAM and ROM.
The V Series extends Fujitsu's standalone FRAM line and offers a
wider voltage range of 3 to 5.5V.
Other features include memory densities ranging from 16Kbit
to 256Kbit, I squared C and SPI interfaces, and operating
frequencies from 400 kHz to 20MHz.
Similar to Fujitsu's other standalone FRAM offerings,
the V Series is highly reliable.
The products can retain date for 10 years and are guaranteed to operate
within the industrial temperature range of -40 degrees celcius to +85 degrees celcius.
The V Series uses the same package and pin-out as the equivalent lower
voltage standalone FRAM products,
for more design flexibility.
In fact, a major advantage of the V Series FRAM is its design flexibility.
For example, you might be developing several products with different voltage requirements
One system may require 3.3V, another 5V and a third
both voltages.
Normally, you would need multiple memories to cover these differing
voltage ranges.
But because the V Series supports the range of 3 to 5V, it can be
used in all the designs.
This simplifies your part list,
streamlines stocking and inventory management, and potentially eliminates
the need for voltage converters.
Better yet, this wide voltage range can reduce costs by allowing for volume
pricing.
The V Series FRAM offers several major advantages over EEPROM and Flash.
FRAM delivers high-speed memory access.
In fact, it is about 30x faster than EEPROM.
FRAM has a read/rewrite cycle endurance of 10 to the 12th power.
That is 1 trillion times, which is effectively infinite
This makes FRAM ideal for applications that require frequent data logging.
FRAM is a green memory.
It does not need a battery to retain data
and its low power consumption is up to 100 times better than EEPROM.
FRAM is secure and tamper resistant.
Finally, because FRAM has an inherently strong toleration to radiation,
it is well suited for medical and pharmaceutical applications.
FRAM is ideal for smart cards, RFID, security, metering and many other
applications that require high-performance, non-volatile memory.
Fujitsu's full FRAM product line includes standalone FRAM and
RFID with FRAM.
Fujitsu also offers custom FRAM solutions using a foundry or ASIC model.
The V Series, like all Fujitsu's FRAM offerings, combines the best of RAM and ROM.
This standalone FRAM gives designers the freedom to employ FRAM in a wide
range of designs that demand the high performance conventional
non-volatile memories cannot provide.
The flexibility of the V Series can reduce costs and streamline the design process.
Fujitsu is the pioneer and leader in FRAM technology, and has shipped
billions of FRAM devices
over more than decade.
