What I was seeing over a period of time the consolidation in SSD space is happening
where mainstream of the SSD supply will be provided by NAND Flash vendors
So the natural place where the evolution will go will go in building vertically integrated
solid state storage systems.
The biggest difference which Skyera is bringing is bringing the solid state storage at price
parity with disk space storage systems.
Existing solutions are very expensive and overall they currently take only 0.3 percent
of enterprise storage market.
The number one reason is the cost per gigabyte.
With Skyera, we are bringing price parity between disk space array and enterprise solid
state storage systems. Therefore, we expect to bring Flash into the mainstream.
The Skyhawk has very high density and very high performance.
Now, because of the cost structure where there is price parity with disk space storage systems,
initial use seems like it's coming into big data applications,
data processing, analytics, business intelligence, and the applications where the density is
very important.
A lot of web hosting systems,
they require very good response time for loading of the web page for the customer to be happy
and Flash is bringing that speed.
We are working with many types of customers
from big data customers, which they do analytics and data mining
to special applications where the density is very important when the data center is
in the field
in the car or the van or is moving to a location where data are processed
and also in more conventional enterprise applications where they use it as storage, temporary storage
and applications like that.
Any successful solid state storage systems company has to have a very close relationship
with the NAND Flash vendor.
The NAND Flash is the media which we are using to store the data and we have to understand
them very well
and we must make sure that we extract best reliability and performance from this media.
Therefore, the relationship with Micron is very critical for our success.
They are producing the media that we are using
and close collaboration allows us to increase the reliability of the media, increase performance,
endurance, all these critical parameters.
The Micron Flash currently is the highest density Flash on the planet.
It is achieving 128 gigabit capacity per single die, which in an eight-die stack in single package provides
128 gigabyte.
That high density allows us to fit what typically is two refrigerator boxes in the case of the
disk space systems
it allows us to fit into a very small form factor 1U pizza box
and that was achieved using the highest density Flash on the planet.
