My dishwasher is making a buzzing noise. Do you have any idea what to do about it?
There could be something stuck in the pump impeller. Unfortunately, that requires disassembly
of the pump and removing whatever is stuck.
That is going to be done by a professional, because I don’t want to risk my fingers
in pump gears.
You have to unplug the dishwasher and turn off its water supply before you do any type
of work.
Can I run it until I get a repair guy out?
If something is stuck in the pump, don’t use the dishwasher until it has been fixed.
The pump could fail at any time or damage the rest of the dishwasher.
I wish I had a fallback from using the dishwasher.
Wash them by hand, or use paper plates and plastic silverware for a while. And as for
another source of the noise, the sound could come from the solenoid connected to the detergent
dispenser.
It can’t be that. The dishwasher detergent dispenser is fine.
Check the inlet to the pump. Any item could be stuck there.
How does that create a buzzing sound?
Pipes rattling at resonance can resemble a ringing or buzzing sound. Small pieces of
plastic or glass trapped in a drain vibrating quickly while the unit runs can resemble buzzing.
I’d hear rattling, not buzzing, if that were true.
Not necessarily, if motor sounds are masking the sound of the rattling. Or if high speed
jets of water are speeding up the vibration along with the machine vibrations.
Could the sound come from the control panel?
It could, especially if the dishwasher has a built in buzzer to notify you when it has
completed a cycle.
Would it make buzzing noises when it isn’t supposed to?
It would if the control panel was broken or the electrical connections are malfunctioning.
If only it could tell me what’s wrong.
At least it has the decency to warn you before it konks out.
