bjbj Vantage Point 4.0 offers more built in, in simple content than ever. Separated into
three groups, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced, these samples provide a logical progression
that takes users from the basics of using tags and folders, through the use of types,
and all the way to the use of a complex, plant model. In the basic group, samples target
the use of tags within the Vantage Point system. The calculation tag sample provides over 200
samples of calculation tags and their built-in functions. The plant information sample provides
examples of organizing tags with folders rather than the more complex use of item types. This
is a great way to start out for new users. In the intermediate group, users are exposed
to the use of item types through the various samples. The extruder sample provides a simple
type in associated content such as reports in dashboards that users can become familiar
with. The plant model provides users with a simple, but functional type package that
can be re-used as a starting point to model their own plant hierarchy. The process sample
provides instances of types such as drives, motors, and valves, typically found in process
applications. These types, along with associated trends in dashboards, are now included as
part of the Vantage Point product. Last in the intermediate group are status items. Status
items are a new built-in functionality that allow users to create overview dashboards
by simply creating instances of status items within the model. In the advanced group, users
are provided with a complex hierarchical model as well as small preview of the new program
engine that's included in Vantage Point 4.0. Beyond this content, Vantage Point 4.0 also
comes complete with a preconfigured MS sequel connector. This connector has examples of
tag providers, allowing users to take data from a Microsoft sequel server database and
trend it or use in other reports just as if it were tags coming from any other application.
Map types, which are instances of items within the Vantage Point model, that originate from
a sequel server data base, and queries which allow users to fetch rows and columns of data
back from database structures. Many aspects of this content can be seen in the Vantage
Point portal. In fact, under the samples menu, six model views are provided to take users
to specific views of the content that we just explored. As expected, each of these model
views exposes links to the content that might be associated with a given sample, but new
in Vantage Point 4.0, portal information pages as shown on the right side of the screen provide
users with an overview of what the sample provides and a little bit of how it might
be adapted to your own application. Where appropriate, hyperlinks directly to the Vantage
Point help is provided. In addition to the specific model views that are created for
each of these content items, additional information on topics such as the [sounds like] NQD sample
database, can be found under the My Enterprise report view. If you scroll way down the list
here, there's a lot of content, we can find pages such as About the Sample Database. Clicking
on that, provides uses with additional information about the [sounds like] NQD sample data base,
key structures within, etc. Likewise, the program engine doesn't provide much in the
way of report content, but About Program Engine is provided as well, to give users a little
bit more information about how the program engine works and how they might adapt it to
their applications. Please take some time and click around the new Vantage Point 4.0
and explore much of this new content that is provided. We think that it will provide
users with an opportunity to learn some of the basics of Vantage Point as well as see
new and exciting things that are included in this release. Content Overview FactoryTalk
