The project that we've been running here, at Berri, is related to the management of
a deteriorating patient. The basic concept behind it is the introduction of a
MET team, which is a Medical Emergency Response Team. What we've done is, instead,
we don't have an ICU, so it's staffed from the team within.
So staff members from the floor are allocated their role when they come on shift.
and they wear a coloured lanyard,
and that's how everybody on the team is identified, is by the lanyard that they wear that day.
So everybody's aware of exactly what they've got to do if there's an emergency.
Future benefits for the project, will be using this concept and rolling out across other sites
within the country, who are in the same situation as us, in that they don't have
external resources such as ICUs that they can pull experienced staff
in managing a critically ill patient. So it's training staff from within
health services, and within units, so it's maximizing what we do have in the hospitals,
and then hopefully providing the best patient care that we can.
