The increment in the number of trains and buses allowed Metro to improve its level of service
although still suffers major jams at peak times, currently there is no need to close stations for excess of passengers.
LA Cisterna intermodal station is an example of what the system wants to be in the medium term.
In it the network of feeder buses is fully and comfortably integrated with the subway and trunk services.
In the same way exclusive corridors in streets like Pajaritos, Alameda and Santa Rosa
show the great benefits of having the right infrastructure.
-I think that in some areas the change has been radical for the better
but not in others since the system needs a complete integration, it is still not working ok.
One of the important changes has been the decline in assaults on buses.
Now drivers don´t have to collect tickets and control the payment which has significantly decreased the number of accidents.
-I travel on the bus alone and go to work every day, which I could not do before.
Before I could not go to work somewhere else that was not
near my house, then that is a significant change.
-There was not an urban study for designing public transport,
there was not clearly a conception of development of the city and was not
considered that public transport is the circulatory system that runs the urban body.
-I still believe that is possible and we are moving on a little bit in the right direction
of the system we should have had from the beginning.
-Improving the infrastructure was something that needed to be done and now Transantiago is doing it.
- And we are already reaching higher levels than we had before,
with higher quality of buses and waiting times and speeds
much better than those of any major city of any world-class metropolis
Users believe that adjustments to the system are still weak
but are awaiting further changes that will assure them what Transantiago promised them.
- "the system is improving but slowly. We need some more time for Transantiago to improve"
- "More frequency I think, more buses, there is none"
- "I see no change so far, I see that the situation is getting worse every day"
- "Have to take 2, 3 buses to get to work. Lose much more time than before"
- "My service personally never had problems, just peak hours, the buses a little full, but generally pass. It worked well for me"
- "I think in general terms it has improved, not what you would expect but if has improved.
Now the important thing is that this system continue improving and we do not changed it by another, that would be a nonsense”
