A mandala is an ancient and eternal symbol
of the completeness of creation, wholeness and unity. Diversity connected into a whole
opens a path to inner harmony and deepens the space of awareness. Vanda Omejc and Gabrijela
Železnik have displayed their mandalas at the Oton Župančič Library in Ljubljana.
They are painted on glass in a small dots technique using a paintbrush.
A circle also represents time, as time progresses
not linearly, but in cycles. The circle represents the beginning and the end, thus our past,
present and future. Mandalas are created from a circle mainly because every separate dot
made is a circle, which means that each circle again forms a perfect mandala.
I can say that mandalas are spiritual images
expressed through art, for a first look at mandalas is art, but an in-depth look at them
is spirituality. However, in order for us to get the in-depth look at spirituality,
we must take individual steps, for instance: concentrate, meditate and contemplate.
Concentration basically means a calm and relaxed look deep into the centre of a mandala, which basically
represents all creation or our absolute consciousness. Looking into the centre of mandalas
for a longer period of time, we gradually advance to meditation. And what happens next;
our thoughts and emotions stop. And the longer we look, the more we gradually advance to
contemplation, which means we get in touch with our soul. But this occurs only when
our thoughts and emotions are brought to a complete stop. That is when we also hear the sound
within ourselves, the ancient sound.
My wish is for all mankind to find peace
and harmony again. Mandalas have existed since the beginning of mankind. The basic purpose
of mandalas is to help us and assist us in our practice of concentration, meditation,
in our personal growth process and in raising our consciousness. Consciousness is the substance
of the universe, and consciousness is a great gift bestowed upon human beings.
The limits of our consciousness are the limits of our understanding. Everything we understand,
everything we see, it all depends on the level of our consciousness. Mandalas are formed in a way
to help us with that. We are a collective consciousness, but we see ourselves as separate,
not connected with the whole. But for us to experience ourselves as a collective consciousness
again and to experience ourselves as a whole again, for that we need a balanced functioning
of the left and right brain hemispheres. Mandalas are formed in a way so that they help us with that,
gradually and completely balancing us. And as we raise our consciousness, we feel free,
we suddenly see the whole world in a different light, and we no longer identify
ourselves with experiences but use them to experience a different view. And as we experience
a different view of our experiences, we simply no longer need them, and they go away,
or we no longer occupy ourselves with them in a way as we did before. Because the purpose
of mandalas is to get a different view of life, to realise that reality is not only
what we experience around us, that we are the creators and makers of our reality.
We have been doing this since 1998,
when we met on a trip. Mandalas have brought me great inner peace, a connection with myself,
the greatness of realising who and what I am. Because this is the purpose of mandalas;
to realise who we are, what we are, why we are here, and mandalas basically bring this harmony.
The colourful stories about the light, awareness,
spiritual travels and love are on display at the City Library until Saturday, June 30th.
